Yesterday's workout on the trainer made 10 days of riding in a row without a break. I'm considering taking today as a complete rest day, but my conscience is barking at me not to waste a day off like that. Decisions, decisions...

That's it, then. If you can loaf, so can I. Football is about to start anyway, so it's couch potato time.

You need the rest days, and so you feel better I won't even stretch before I slip into the hot tub, we did go for a 90 minute walk and then stopped by this neat Sushi place in town for lunch, and some warm saki.....probably killed all the benefit of the walk.

Unless your trainer rides are really short or easy, take a recovery day. I used to be a real "trainer warrior" but then I discovered the fun of outdoor winter riding. Fatbiking in about an hour.

My trainer rides are usually 45 mins at about 80%. That gets me 15 "miles" as far as Zwift is concerned. Some days I get two rides in. When the weather allows outside rides, I usually do 25 miles in a little over an hour. Those rides take a lot more out of me, so I get a couple of rest days per week when riding outside.

Recovery days are both necessary and improve your health. 1 to 2 days a week is about right.

I raced track (kilometer and occasionally pursuit) years ago, and I rode rollers and wind trainers extensively and also used mountain biking as an off-week training opportunity. I rode on roads as little as I could possibly manage, since I was working a day job that had me on the road all day, every day. I'm hyper-motivated and tend to over-train, so I had to resort to wearing my HRM to bed sometimes to check my resting heart rate upon waking up. If I wasn't sleeping and my heart rate was above 55 bpm resting, it was time to back off. Trouble sleeping and elevated resting heart rate are warning signs.

When I push too hard for too long I start getting hamstring cramps out of nowhere. I came back from having a few pints with a friend last night and got a nasty one just getting out of the car. Another reason to take it easy today.

Banana's......leg cramps are often due to low potassium.....I like to put my bananas in the blender with some coconut and pineapple juice....and maybe a bit of rum to kill the bacteria that might be in the blender.

I eat a banana every morning for breakfast. Plus I take a magnesium supplement. I was taking a potassium supplement, but stopped after doing some research and learning it could be doing me more harm than good due to the BP med I take. Minor chance of ill effects, but why risk it. Better to start eating 2 bananas a day instead of one. Bananas are insanely cheap.

And now they are dribbling the basketball in the kitchen while I'm trying to take a well-deserved dump
