I did think that briefly. I don't think that any of the responses have been all that surprising though.

So you're saying Audi doesn't make some pretty nice cars just because one publication's opinion (not even a top 5 publication for that matter) ranked BMW over Audi for the hot hatch segment?

Audi cannot make cars that handle well; fact. They can make pretty cars with nice interiors and a sledgehammer of power so they go fast on straight lines. And their core customer base is FWD diesel cars. Fundamental difference. A base model 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 series handles very well. A base model A1/2/3/4/5/6/8 handles very badly. The end. |

Let me prefance this statement by saying I reallllllllllllllllllly like Audi's, but only the S series, RS series, and R8's.
#2 to me behind BMW. But....... If I bought a Audi S4 to me it is a VW Passat with little more luxury and a V8 (or Supercharged 6). There is no BS BMW variant. There are consumer level BMW's, but its not like BMW has some consumer brand. |

Now, as I said earlier in the thread, I picked BMW for a reason, many in fact, but both brands have some great cars in their lineup. |

That's it for me; can't think of any others. The bulk of Audis cars are "pretend" sporty cars. No matter what body kit and giant wheels you put on your 2.0 diesel FWD saloon, it's still a 2.0 diesel FWD saloon. You just cannot make a good, balanced cars with an engine so far forwards and in most cases, FWD or Haldex AWD. They come up with the odd decent motor (e.g. B7 RS4) but so often they just disappoint. All that platform sharing with Seat, Skoda and VW doesn't help just like every brand ruined by GM. |

1, A mistake that choose the E92 335i (6MT) over S5 8 yr ago because Audi dealer was so mean and not let me test drive the S5. That mistake fixed 3 years ago after I pull the trigger and bought the S5(6MT too) eventually! But then another big mistake was instead of trade in the 335i, I keep it! Now my beautiful montego blue E92 335i is a big garage queen now! I always have to find some reason to drive the 335i but my butt still prefer behind the wheel of the S5!
My S5 with sport diff brake & handle as good as RWD 335i, but engine & 6MT from S5 is way better than 335i. 2, Wish my 335i has Audi engine & Honda MT, wish my S5 use less fuel 3, Driving BMW for the past 20yr, all the BMW salesman are very good but service department is the other side maybe I visit the service department too often! 4, no idea! Maybe a Cayman or WRX to replace the 335. But my 335 is really a beauty to keep as a furniture just not willing to drive it! So dun plan to buy a 5th car for near future

I cross-shopped the 2015 models of Audi S3, Mustang GT, and M235i, and test drove all of them before choosing the BMW.
I liked a lot of things about the S3. The one I drove had the Daytona Grey package with red leather seat inserts and interior accents. The interior was amazing. The gauges and electronics were also amazing - much better than the M235i dash, IMO. I even liked the exterior styling a bit more than the BMW truth be told. Driving the car, it was very responsive to both steering and throttle inputs, and stuck like glue everywhere. The deal-breaker: no manual gearbox.
