Man you must be oooold-er than me...
The E89 would truly be an exotic back in 1986.., with the vaunted M1 a hair faster @ 0-60 in 4.1. ------ My week attempt to stay on topic |

I just can't see that car do better than 4.9 or 4.8 given its weight. Which is still plenty fast by any standard!

I haven't used LC yet but I've done several WOT runs and it definitely doesn't accelerate hard enough for me to be convinced it's a 4.3 second car.

I ran a 4.5 0-60 on my 35i after I put a Jb4 in it (with VBOX), with 1 passenger on a not so great road.
The jb4 had no time to adapt though, and the car was much faster after it adapted and this was jb4 alpha (not even beta), when there was an issue with the DCT (power would be cut for an instant at WOT between 2 and 3 and 3 and 4, which was later fixed after logs were done) I dynoed on a dyno jet stock 287whp, jb4 adapted with 91 octane 349whp, 352wtq. Real world results by a non-professional on normal street roads, not a drag strip I never did a 0-60 run again after the Jb4 adapted though (had to return the vbox to my friend)

I don't know about that. I've ridden in an M6 and CLK63 and when they go WOT I definitely could feel the difference. Both those cars will run sub 4.5 second times consistently.

Neither can do much about the power-to-weight ratio. The laws of Newtownian physics are strictly enforced. a=F/m

The point being that a car with a weight to power ratio of 10.4 that has Launch Control and DCT, all other things being equal, is faster than the same car without it. So, we can no longer make the statement that a car should not be running 0-60 or 1/4 mile any faster that xx seconds, because it's power to weight ratio dictates it can't. regarding warranty, I just would remove the jb4 (in the z4 it's easy, 10 minutes tops. in an e9x takes 30 mins +) and if you get a BT tool, you can see if you had any codes (Jb4 itself can clear codes, and read them too, but the BT cable is easier to use in my opinion)

The difference isn't as insignificant as a stop watch makes it seem.

The Z4 has an easy lauch to tons of low RPM power and probably takes the M6 off the line. I drove an M3 on an autocross last week. An off idle lauch was bog city until it hit about 4000 RPMs. Same for the M5/M6.

I'll have some real world testing results soon.
just bought a Contour GPS camera, and I will "get" it on father's day (4th Sept) I'll take some video / GPS runs on LC and without to see what the 35is can do. Stay tuned.

FWIW, I raced my Jb4 alpha Z4 35i vs my friend's e93 M3, I had a crap load of stuff in the trunk, but his passenger was about 50lbs heavier than mine, and him and I are about the same weight, and I took him by 2 cars off the line
He caught up around 70 then we had to stop BUT when we raced from 60 to triple digits, he pulled and pulled and pulled like there was no tomorrow. a good 4 cars ahead of me by the time we hit 135ish and he kept gaining then we stopped The straight line drags were at the street by the track (technically still 'on' the track, just not a track track, make sense?) and the high speeds were done on our way to the track at 6am on a 4 lane highway with no one in sight (didn't see one for a while before, during, or after). Guess that's what happens when the tracks are in the middle of no where

The car handled like it was on rails, but the point of reference back then was different, as I was switching from an '82 Firebird. If I drove the same car today I'd probably feel differently. |
