At least, a microswitch in the roof shell had an issue with its green gummi. After replacing this MS, everything worked fine. |

What was the stop issue? Different from mine? Meaning… at what point in the sequence did the top stop?
I ask because my issue ALWAYS occurs with the first operation of the day. But only occasionally with numerous additional operations following the first one. |

Ugh, did you describe this so exactly already earlier?
Pardon, if I missed this point. Well, this happened by one of the two microswitches in the rear roof shell, that can be touched with a finger, if the rear roof shell is standing vertically on top of the front shell. The issue was visible as a delay of the switch state changes in my roof EKG charts between the left and the right microswitch. Just yesterday, I got the confirmation, that this issue finally has been solved. The replacement of these microswitches is a bit more trickier, as those ones of the coupling locks. I dismount the rear roof shell for this task, as these upper microswitches are not screwed into the roof construction, but melted with their plastic pins into special holes! Definitely not a beginner task, regardless if you or a garage will try this! Maybe, we will meet in Charlotte? Last edited by RobbiZ4; 10-24-2021 at 01:29 PM.. |

Sorry that I did not make that clear in my earlier write up! I had discussed that behavior in a prior thread and nobody had any insight so I didn't think it was relevant. But... yes, my top malfunction is most likely to occur during the first operation after sitting overnight or at least a few hours. If you operated the top 20 times in a row... it would malfunction the first time and then probably 1 additional time randomly in the 20. When you posted that another Z4 had a top issue that only occurred during the first operation in the morning, I wanted to make sure that the issue wasn't exactly the same as mine (and therefore would involve the microswitches in the rear roof shell in place of, or in addition to, the coupling microswitches). Regarding Charlotte.. I told you 2 years ago I'd fly you to Charlotte to repair my top! I could have flown you first class round trip and put you up in a nice hotel for what I've put into this top trying to fix it! Lastly, do you ever take photos when you do top repairs? I'd pay good money for an "dummies guide to repairing the e89 Z4 top" since I'm basically stuck with DIY in the US. |

What do you explain with this posting? It's thrown in the ring like "42".
