Z4 35is does pretty well for itself
I believe 4.3 is the best number for the 35is so far. Interestingly enough, this puts it in some pretty good company. It's actually rather amusing that the 35is can match the performance of a 2011 M6. It's also interesting that the 35is is only 0.2 sec away from the 2011 Corvette that has nearly 100 HP advantage, and matches several of the AMG cars that have 150-220 HP advantage. Lesson Learned: excess weight = bad.
Here's a partial list I compiled from Zero to Sixty Times.com: 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG 0-60 mph 4.3 Quarter mile 12.7 2011 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG 0-60 mph 4.3 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG 0-60 mph 4.3 2010-11 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 0-60 mph 4.3 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG 0-60 mph 4.2 Quarter Mile 12.5 2011 BMW 335i Sedan 0-60 mph 4.7 Quarter Mile 13.4 2011 BMW 335i Dinan S3 0-60 mph 4.3 Quarter Mile 12.8 2009 BMW M3 Sedan 0-60 mph 4.2 Quarter Mile 12.5 2011 BMW 335is 0-60 mph 4.5 Quarter Mile 13.1 2011 BMW 335i Dinan S3 0-60 mph 4.3 Quarter Mile 12.8 2000-02 BMW M5 (V8) 0-60 mph 4.6 Quarter mile 13.0 2005 BMW M5 (V10) 0-60 mph 4.1 Quarter mile 12.2 2010-11 BMW M6 Coupe 0-60 mph 4.4 2002 BMW M Roadster 0-60 mph 4.4 Quarter mile 12.9 2006 BMW Z4 M Roadster 0-60 mph 4.7 Quarter mile 13.2 2009 BMW Z4 sDrive35i 0-60 mph 4.8 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is 0-60 mph 4.3 2011 Porsche 911 Black Edition 0-60 mph 4.6 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 0-60 mph 4.6 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster 0-60 mph 4.3 2009 Porsche Cayman 0-60 mph 5.0 Quarter Mile 13.5 2009 Porsche Cayman S 0-60 mph 4.9 2011 Porsche Cayman S PDK 0-60 mph 4.8 2011 Porsche Cayman S (Manual) 0-60 mph 4.9 2009 Ferrari F430 0-60 mph 4.1 Quarter Mile 12.5 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti 0-60 mph 4.5 Quarter mile 12.6 2011 Ferrari California 0-60 mph 4.0 2010 Maserati Granturismo 0-60 mph 5.2 2011 Maserati Granturismo S 0-60 mph 4.9 2011 Maserati Quattroporte S 0-60 mph 5.3 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 0-60 mph 4.1 2010 Aston Martin DB9 (manual) 0-60 mph 4.5 2010 Aston Martin DB9 (automatic) 0-60 mph 4.7 2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage 0-60 mph 4.6 2010 Aston Martin V12 Vantage 0-60 mph 4.1 Last edited by mike0804; 08-23-2011 at 08:16 PM.. |

I'd be tempted, too. Especially since the S65, a spectacularly good engine, is going away soon. And how hard could be it to drop a few of the remaining S65's into the Z4 body? I know Scott says it won't be a V8, but it seems to fit well with the limited production nature of the M brand and I'm sure BMW M would love to take a few sales away from AMG.
So a V8 Z4 is possible, even reasonable, but not likely. Based on Scott's remarks, the bean-counters are calling the shots. Back in 2002 when I bought my M5 (has it really been almost a decade ago?) it was about passion. Now, it's all about marketing and money. Last edited by mike0804; 08-23-2011 at 10:02 PM.. |

That kit includes an extension for the ćoolant' radiator, not the oil cooler. I dont believe
it is available for the Z4 models.

So wait...people buy BMWs and look at 0-60 times...??
I thought 0-60 went away when we left high school... or when we drove non-mustangs and camaros and such...

That 4.8 for the 35i was just the results from ONE test. It was Road and Track that ran that 4.8.
If you read the Motor Trend article, you see that the 35i was tested at 4.3 by Motor Trend. Not everyone is going to get the same test result on every run. So, what we can conclude is that the BEST time for the 35i is 4.3. The AVERAGE time is more in the mid 4's probably. That means the 35is time of 4.3 that we see posted in THIS thread is not and cannot be it's overall best time, since it's already been proven that the 35i can run a 4.3 and it has about 30 less HP. If Motor Trend had taken the 35is out and tested it on the same day (meaning with the exact same conditions) as the 35i, then it would have run better than 4.3. BMW states 5.2 DCT/5.3 manual, and car magazines have managed 4.8/4.9 usually with a drag strip-like rolling start.

The important thing is not to compare one car's BEST time to another cars time that may not have been it's best run, or to what the Mfg says is it's 0-60 time should be. We should compare apples to apples. |

They tested several other cars under the same conditions that day. Some times were better than other test results from other magazines, some were slower. Some times were slower than the Mfg published time, some faster. As we know, no car is ever going to run an identical time every run. BMW's "claim" is 5.0 with the DCT, not 5.2. 5.0 would makes sense if the 35i actually had only 300HP. Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 08-24-2011 at 02:41 PM.. |

Have you ever used the launch control - I have twice and it was wicked fast. Then again, I remember the days when 0-60mph in 8 seconds was smoking!
