Whatever I don't even care anymore lol it's all so sad... I'm sticking to my 08 E93 335i and then when it starts getting old ill pick up a 12 E93 335is to keep the spirit alive. If I ever made enough money than maybe I'd grab an F80 M3, but I really don't like the look of the F30's so we'll see. |

BMW, can you please listen to your customers???? We are loyal to you, why can't you (BMW) keep doing what you have done in the past?? do a proper Motorsport line of awesome cars???
Bring a True Z4 ///M car with a V8. Even if you bring it for 1 year like you did with the 1///M. It will sell in NO time. Please stop putting "///M" on everything!!! Motorsport is lossing it's prestige. Remember your slogan "M, the most powerful letter in the world"??? http://www.car-forums.com/talk/showthread.php?t=16261 BMW, stick to your roots. I'm sure that you will be the Brand of choice for years to come if you do.

I think that the performances of the car are more important than the naming
Also there are a lot of BMW customers that can t afford an M car so the M Performance is the best option |

Bringing it back into a Z4 is not possible when it is already in a Z4 production model. I do wish they had put the ///M Power rocker cover on the 35iS as they did on the 1M. Open the bonnet and you get "BMW Twin Power" on our engine and the 1M boys get "BMW ///M Power" on theirs. If they were soooo busy putting ///M badges all over the 35iS, why couldn't they acknowledge the engine was the most ///M bit and put a sticker there for us? I'd trade the door sills, the speedo and steering wheel badges all for that engine cover. Let's face it, it is the only performance enhancing thing they changed on the 35iS, so it shoudl be the only thing that gets a ///M badge.

The engine is the obvious one which is your point, and there's only so much they'll be willing to do with it based on a power to weight ratio. Only the supercars have 550 - 600 horsepower in a "road" car. The other is the suspension and handling - springs, dampers, torsion bars and steering. The questions into play: how's BMW going to charge another $20 USD ($90,000 total package) for some programing tweaks and slight different springs, dampers, torsion bar rates. It already has most of the ///M badging anyway (except the important 1 ).

Let's see so you can DIY for $99.00 & 1 PN 11127845442 - makes it as much an sdriveZ4M35is as a 1"M".
Or wait till BMW comes out with it for another $3-4K .

yep... exactly... it's just that some folks need a little M history lesson...
case in point.... Quote:
and... Quote:
For those of you that don't know... BMW has been " watering down" and over-using " the M name for about 3 decades... starting with models like the E30 convertible M technic http://www.e30ic.com/M-technic.htm and of course the M535.... http://www.m535i.org/ the M635.... http://www.classicandperformancecar.....php/?see=3365 So indeed, Panchio.... BMW WILL keep doing what they have done in the past... And Hawk.... I think you'll find that the usage of M in other models hasn't taken anything away from M cars... if anything it has done exactly what vladbeca indicates... .. both in the past.... and current... M-should be exclusive and have distinctive differences, Audi has S-line...no one really cares about it, like a simple sports package, i hope this won't happen with M

The problem of Z4is was and still lies out of the engine bay, it is the rest of the car; steering, suspension, brakes, overall capability of the chassis just is not a match to the engine which is terrific. Also, I agree in principle with people saying that BMW shouldn't need to M everything, they can since its their call but they still shouldn't, any BMW is already a worthy car to "drive" in its segment, so there was no need to copycat Audi in these marketing plays, important thing is how a car performs and nothing else. |

It has the same power, torque, (I've dynoed both and they were within 2kW of eachother and the curves were identical) and both have the same overboost function. The marketing from BMW even said it was the engine from the Z4 35iS. The sticker change is the only bit we know about, so your facts about what has changed will be of great interest to us all.

I did some parts # comparison on RealOEM. A 1M "short engine" has a different PN than a 35i/35is short engine (does not include the injector cover with or without "M" & obviously nor the ECU). However searching through most of the important major components (cyl head, valves, block, crank, cams, con rods, intake manifold, oil pump, water pump, fuel inj, & exh/turbos) all are exactly indentical PN for the 1M short block -vs- the 35i/35is.
OK I did find one difference the High pressure fuel rail. I would venture to guess the only difference may be related to either "blueprinting" or optomizing tolerances in the 1M version. Looks like you don't get much for an sideways "stick on" emblem. IMO they did that so tastelessly I wouldn't even want one.

Does anyone think BMW will wait to see how well the SLK 55 does in sales to make a profitable decision on making a true Z4 M? It's nice to see some vendors sticking true with the 8 in the bay.

not sure how bmw will look at production since z4 sales have been pretty slow, and the 35is version even slower. its not really a fan based car like m3/m5 and now m1

I do find it weird that the SLK55 is not that much faster than the 35is. I mean even the SLK350 with it's V6 is just as fast as the 28i N20 I4 twin-power turbo. The SLK250 with Benzes own I4 turbo is almost a second slower to 60 than the 28i.
