I currently have a FB account but I think eventually my memories will fail me and so will FB. I probably will keep my account, but nothing will probably come of it. It's just a thing and like anything will come and pass.

I'm still holding out that MySpace will make a comeback!
Seriously though, I have never had a MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Farcebook account. More importantly from a legal perspective working in the IT security field, I have never sold my soul to them by subjecting myself to their shrink-wrap license agreements to authorize them stalking my every move around the web. Funny Farcebook story. Everyone in my blood family uses Farcebook regularly. Whenever I see them at a family gathering, they ask why I don't respond to the FB messages/posts that they send me. Apparently, they are all friends with some stranger on FB who has my name. I told them that they should invite Farcebook "me" to the family Christmas gathering last December because I was unable to attend...and hope that he/she wasn't an axe murderer because that person knew everything about the entire family through their over-sharing stupidity. Sadly, I can never change jobs again in my life, since social media accounts are part of pre-employment background checks. Apparently, *not* being a FB slacker security threat who over-shares information is a hiring red flag these days.....

First of all, I'm 49, so there is a little perspective.
I use FB for my own purposes, so it doesn't bother me at all. I find that if you keep your circle small, FB is not a problem. It's when you make that circle big (and FB is good at promoting that), that you have issues. |

I never wanted to put my life in public for all to see. What’s the point of privacy and privacy rights if you just give them away? I definitely do not have a Facebook account and was never interested in one.

I am on LinkedIn and have a business with no need for Facebook. I was briefly on Instagram when our vacation condo was being constructed because that was the way to see updates and pictures of work in progress.
My wife uses FB to keep in touch with family in Nicaragua. I see no need for FB, Twitter or any other such platform for myself. The privacy concerns are real and I already allocate more than enough time here without having other things to follow.

FB? Never had, never will!
Funny side story: Wifey and me went beyond Berkeley Shopping Center after shopping 1,5 years ago just to visit the FB campus and see the sh*t live. At the end we made a picture in front of the big picture with the thumb up at Hacker Rd. I had turned my thumb demonstrately down and only a few minutes later a security employee came up and told us to go

I think this is the best modern social network, I understand why people leave it because of the many wrong information that is published there, but I would recommend you stay. After all, there you can chat with friends and find help in any field, such as education.

This is the only reason I still have Facebook. Marketplace has replaced craigslist almost entirely. It also provides a layer of safety because you can perform some due diligence on who you're interacting with. Obviously people can still make a fake account, but it's better than the emails on craigslist.

I collect airplane models, the main forum is dying out. There are a few active FB groups that i follow.
Same with racing, a good way to keep in touch with my racing friends and know about upcoming events etc. |

Never had one. Fiance constantly venting/complaining to me regarding posts of close family. I usually just tell her to delete her account. My dad loves it, he has absolutely no filter on there.

I use it for car groups, marketplace, and memes. I wouldn't have power steering in my Miata rn if it weren't for the local Miata group I joined, dude was giving parts away for free. I never post anything, just share random videos and memes. Any time I see anything political (or just shit I dont want to see in general), the offender either gets a 30 day mute or just removed entirely. I don't care to see what other people are up to, and I don't care to have my feed flooded with the latest new stories. Cars and memes ONLY.

An old coworker told me that the iPhone app would listen in on your conversations. I didnt believe it until my gf and i were talking randomly about Ford Explorers. She opened up the Facebook app to check something and sure enough, had an add for the new Ford Explorer. Never typed/emailed/texted or searched for them.
Coincidence? Perhaps, but I doubt it. Outside of FB, she was also looking for a job and I started getting email about Glassdoor jobs - a site I havent visited in 5 years. I only had a shell FB account with a fake name when on Bumble. I never posted anything. |
