I done this retrofit on my 2010 E89 35is in Taiwan. BMW agent quotes these retrofit part list for me as follows and it around USD,10,000. It may help you guys who wants to do it and find break down.
some connector pins need to be jump and replace by retrofit wires, and footwell module as well, and then coding around 3 to 4 hours. Last edited by livin; 10-06-2014 at 09:30 AM.. |

Strange, my car's update was really plug&play(changed them myself) , apart from the fact that it needed some coding. (Which took the guy 2 minutes as he only changed the production year in the software, which he then loaded to the car.) 03-2010 Sdrive35is btw... And 10000$? madness! You can get a brand new set on eBay.de for 1/5 of that price, and sell the old set for half of that... in total I paid 1000$ for the upgrade.. Last edited by McShine; 10-06-2014 at 11:01 PM.. |

The trouble I see is that while there are LCI lights on ebay, they're stripped of the modules. Modules that have different part numbers to the original light unit which makes me think I could get two LCI light units but then have to pay way more to track down all the different modules required.... ?
Its interesting that you just swapped yours over though as there seems to be a wiring/loom adaptor listed in the retrofit kit from BMW themselves. Yeah, BMW original agent has quote TEN THOUSAND US DOLLARS for the new couple of LCI headlight. The price of all new E89 35is is around 150,000 USD in Taiwan. It seems we have no choice to pay the very expensive customs for cars and parts in Taiwan.

I should think it's software that points them left or right for LHD/RHD. It'd be needlessly expensive to manufacture two physically different sets surely? The adaptive lights already swivel...
Anyway, there's a set of these on ebay Germany going for little money, runs out tonight, they ship everywhere I think. Yeah I saw those too, which is what made me wonder if they were LHD/RHD... I've just checked online and the part numbers are different on LHD cars to those that are RHD so there must be a difference which means an even harder seek for my to find.
There's also the fact these are adaptive headlights, which aren't standard here in the UK. I wonder if that would cause an issue on cars not fitted OEM with adaptive headlights. I also wonder if it, with coding, would allow the car to use the adaptive part. |

So is the consensus is that you can just plug and play these on a car with adaptive headlights? Mine is left hand drive with adaptive, those ones on ebay.de would be a quick/easy self install?

Of the 3 that have done is successfully on this thread, they all had the complete headlight assembly. That is to say, module and everything. Once you have that, then it is plug and play it would seem (and coding).
If you buy the one from eBay (which is NOT the complete headlight) just the assembly, then you would still need other parts. flpnout just bought the headlight assembly, so have to wait to hear back from him to see if the other parts (modules, LEDs, sensors) can be re-used or if he had to purchase those as well. |

That is correct. There are two ways to do this, similar to my E92 M3 rear LCI lamps. I had the option to get the retro fit kit with foot module or code out the error. I preferred the latter and it worked just fine and least expensive.
Hope to have the same results for the Z4 next Friday.

I heard that BMW agent engineer talk about if using old footwell module the old module will record error until 50 times, the old module will be failed. Needing to be replaced another new one at that time.

No. I just heard that when my retrofit headlight and discuss with BMW engineer. Just for your information. I don't wanna ask for trouble so I replaced the footwell module earlier. Anyway if you encounter this issue just remember that.

I appreciate those who have and spend the dough on an upgrade that only the owner will recognize as an upgrade. I love it and will have to live vicariously thru all who completed this Retrofit-Re-Light project. This is only my personal opinion and taste so take that into consideration with my next statement and opinion: Even if I had all the $$ in the world, for me, the $10K Investment/Upgrade will yield absolutely $0 return on resale. No one will ever pay $40K for a $30K car because they have the 2015 model year headlamps.
