Like J-C Van Damme, Charlie went through a drug period which some of the top flight actors do.
Getting back to the film I caught this vid of what Director Serafian says about it.

You like your Action: Ultra Violent and Nonstop Epic Ass Kicking? Well... This makes the entire John Wick franchise look like a Disney Production!

Favorite! Have it on Blu-Ray. Friedkin also directed French Connection of course, which also has a great car sequence. Have you tried the original novel, To Live and Die in LA? Once I start, I almost never put a book down without finishing. But I just couldn’t get through it. It was so poorly written. IMO.

For car chase. If you haven’t seen it, try The Hidden. With Kyle MacLachlan. It’s another cop buddy movie, with a strange twist. It’s a little bit goofy, the acting is a little inconsistent, the special effects are not awesome. The reason I bought this was for the car chases. And Claudia Christian’s scenes. It’s a good bad midnight movie. Trailer reveals too much IMO but

^ The Hidden is an old favorite of mine.

Here's a scene with Brenda (Claudia).

*Spoiler Alert* for those who haven't seen it.

What do you guys think of Project Hail Mary?
Having read the book, I had low expectations because it's very difficult to do the science in the book justice without disengaging the casual audience.
To me the movie was a story about a goofy science teacher and a goofy alien where the book hardly had any comedy in it.
Overall, I'm not impressed and, taking the book a side, I have a hard time understanding why so many people like it this much given the whole flood of sci-fi movies these days.

We just saw it today. I enjoyed it and was entertained. IMHO, it was Kevin Costner long. They could easily shaved off at least 20 minutes and kept story-continuity. I enjoyed the humour and appreciated that they didn't take themselves too seriously.

The Maltese Falcon

Was in the mood for a classic.

Bogart, to Peter Lorre: When you're slapped, you'll take it and like it.

Bogart, to Mary Astor: We didn't exactly believe your story, Miss O'Shaughnessy. We believed your $200.

Not.... *quite* movies, but I'm spending a long weekend up at my father's for his 83rd birthday and since he's tired from radiation for prostate, we've been binge-watching the old "Columbo" tv shows.

They were only broadcast intermittently (69 episodes in 35 years) and tended to run 90-120 minutes.

They're admittedly a little formulaic, but are a hoot from the 60's and 70's (and the '80's, but we haven't quite gotten that far yet) and it's fun to watch Peter Falk's detective be the smartest guy in any room without ever letting anybody know. He won four Emmy's for the role.

A lot of "big" stars in the 70-80's were in them-- they got paid to scale but got to play against against type, which is sort of fun to watch.

Also, it was the first real "reverse-murder" series-- they all start with you watching how the murder was done, and then the rest of the program is watching Columbo reel in the rich bad guys simply by observation and giving themselves enough rope to hang themselves.

So, pretty much recommended.

I enjoyed Extraction when it was released, the sequel was good but not as good as the original.
