The wife and I watched FRANKENSTEIN last night from Netflix. It is a MASTERPIECE!
Visually stunning. Well cast. Very well written. Beautifully shot. Believable for a fantasy. 5/5 Easily one of the BEST films of 2025.

Ice Station Zebra. (1968) With Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan, Ernest Borgnine, Jim Brown. Directed by John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, and has a credit for one of my favorites, Le Mans starring Gulf Porsche 917s ... and Steve McQueen, but is supposed to have quit over the (lack of a) script.)
Was in the mood for a campy-ish classic. Has its moments but meh. |

I thought it sucked the way it ended. I'll leave it at that, don't want to spoil it for anyone that does watch it.

Watched this last night with the Mrs. We both REALLY enjoyed it. Very relavant and accurate to today's environment and culture. Well written, acted and directed. And we witnessed the rise of a new Star in Chase Infiniti who is also gorgeous.

Yes. I think there were a couple of background actors who are women in the opening pub scene, but none with lines. Breakheart Pass I haven't seen. The synopsis does sound similar. The movie I kept thinking of was The Thing. Plot is not close obviously, but the setting, the remote outpost, the fire in the camp. And, a cast with no women.

Black Bag, 2025. With Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchet, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Quick (90 minutes) spy thriller. Cast is good. Felt like an adaptation of a minor le Carré or Graham Greene story. A few moments of action but mostly suspense. Even with a quick runtime, thought this was a bit chatty in parts, and the end is a little disappointing with characters explaining a bit too much. If you liked Soderbergh's The Limey you might also like this (though Fassbender is not as menacing as Terence Stamp). |
