Thanks, me too. I'm not looking forward to the hassle though. The odds aren't in my favor but I really do hope everything goes smoothly, it would be a first.

It wasnt even about the excuse the driver provided. I own a business a block away from where the accident occured. I know all the cops in the area basically, and when most heard; alot of them offered to take the report EVEN though the cop was already there (she was a HOUSING officer; ffs she didnt even have the paperwork to do it). She got mad when like 4 other officers asked to take over the report.
She also favored the other driver for he is a commericial van driver. At the end she told me that NY is a no fault state but technically the other driver was in the wrong. So my insurance would cover it and then file a claim with the commercial van company. When i got my report 2 days later, it stated I was in the wrong -_-'. Oh well, at the end of the day, its just a car and it is repairable! Mine was drivable in all honesty, although it looked terrible and the bottom fender had came loose so it kept rubbing on the tire. Other than that, you should be fine to cruise around in it. Although it'll make you sad to keep seeing the damage. I was depressed for soo long I am sure everything will go accordingly with you though and wish you nothing but the best! I have always loved seeing your car in threads and your mods! If you wanted, you could trade it in for another car. Say you wanted the porsche, they will prolly assume the car without any fines ( i believe they just buy it outright) but you might take a little beating accordingly. It's all about your priorities tbh |

When I had my accident (I'm not at fault), my insurance, AAA, covered my repairs with no questions asked and then the adjuster deal with the other insurance company for payment. No out of pocket for me and no down time figuring out who's at fault. I would recommend go through your insurance, and then let them deal with the city.

My car was leased as well (so glad I did). Had 2 accidents last year, 12 weeks total time spent in body shop getting it fixed. I was paying the same monthly payment while driving a damn Yaris.
As far as affecting the lease, none. Just make sure you return the car without major dings/scratches. I had my repairs done at a reputable shop I trust (I don't trust the body shop BMW referred to), made sure all parts are OEM and requested all parts to be documented for lease return. I suggest you request and keep the parts list that was replaced. Upon completion of repairs, car was sent to BMW dealer for final check, all part of the quote to repair so no out of pocket for me. Good luck! I feel the pain |

That is good to hear and the confirmation is a good relief. Quote:
I'll consider that trade in once the new Cayman comes out later this year. I'll take a big hit having them absorb 2 more years of lease though. But it isn't something I am scratching off from the possibilities. I might fall in love with it at the LA AutoShow this year so we'll see.

Maybe you can consider just getting full bumper replacements maybe even the Rowen (i know this is not for everyone) while you have the chance?

Alright, I tested the roof of the car and it looks to be functioning well, even the SmartTop is working fine. At first the rear drivers window didn't go all the way down with the roof but once I used the button it went down. I tested the roof several times too along with the remote and all seems to be working fine so looks like it's good in that end.
Also test drove it and no wiggle from the rear so it looks like the rear axle is fine but I still want that double/triple checked to be 100% sure. Took better pics with better camera, it does look like mostly body work but again that isn't guaranteed until they get inside there. It's drivable but it would be devastating to see that damage every time I walk up to the car, doesn't help that it is on the drivers side too so I can't even miss it. Makes that fender well so much bigger too.

Might be a good chance to lower it too while it's the shop.

Like others have said, use OEM parts and document everything and you are good to go at lease return.
The easiest is to take it to a dealer and as long as they will do the work for what your insurance will pay (or other party's insurance) then you are all good. If that doesn't work another strategy is to find out the third party shop that a BMW dealer sends cars to (not all of them own a body shop) and go to that third party directly and negotiate with them. They usually are able to make it work out so they use OEM parts and get it all to fit within what your insurance will pay. Basically if you cut out the dealer (who sometimes marks up the work as a middleman) you save money. best of luck and sorry to hear this! |

Was the driver trashed, sorry could not resist, sorry about the car, looks worse than it is, will look good as new when its fixed, but like someone said make sure its not put the car out shape, and really check the roof, especially for leaks.

Finally got my car back and it looks as good as new.
To those wondering, it cost $4200 to fix everything. Only the fender was ordered new, the bumper and wheels were fixed. No structural damage or alignment problems, no electrical problems with the roof either. Everything is working well. Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! Happy to join you guys again in the joy of driving our Z4!!!

Thanks guys for the quick reply.
I understand that the panel is part of the chassis skeleton, however, by looking at the diagram on the URL, The panel appear to be attached to the frame using bolts? is that correct? Does the panel has to be cut to be removed? |
