I guess it is due to the self-returning "original position" of the gear lever. From "N", I push it once to "R". However, from "D", when I push it to "R", I experience two steps, and it return to the original position. When it is in "R", if I want to change it to "N", I pull it one step. Pulling two steps put it to "D". No matter what gear the car engages, the lever return to the "original position". That's why two steps are prepared for changing from "R" back to "D".
This is just a wild guess ! |
