The oil cooler is standard on both the 35i and 35is.

Yes, the M-Adaptive suspension is included in the Sport or the M-Sport package.

Look - we have a loaded 2010 Z4 35i with upgrades. Those upgrades include Eisenmann exhaust, Stett FMIC, and some other quality goodies. As a result, our 35i will smoke a stock 35is but the price was not cheap - about what you would pay for a stock loaded 35is (note that the more packages and options you add the closer in price the two models really are to one another - for our car about $5k difference). So, had the 35is been available when we purchased the 35i, I would have definitely bought the 35is because I am a full throttle type of guy. So, just know your personalty - will you be happy saving some cash and having an awesome car in the 35i or will you always long for the 35is you should have bought because the extra money doesn't matter too much??? Plus, the DCT is amazing and we would have had that on either car for my bride as it is her primary driver.

tranny baby
As usual it comes down to what tranny do you really want in a roadster!!! With a JB4 or ESS flash, or Dinan, we are talking about more power any way you see it. With H & R sway bars and possibly springs, ride quality and firmness are matchable, not a ton of money involved in any of these upgrades.
So, are you going to let BMW decide your tranny or are you going to stand up and say "I can't stand it any more" and make your own decision (lololol)!!! And I have a E90 M3 with 6MT besides the Z4 and the Z4's short shifter and long gearing make it a real pleasure to drive............ |

Bottom line is that we all feel the need to rationalize our decisions. I for one am very happy in my decision to buy the top of the range and enjoy all of the accoutrements that come with it.

Agree with Mike. I was a die hard 6 sp guy and heel and toeing is second nature and a blast when driving fast, BUT the DCT is awesome and I will never go back! The 35is is way more fun in the real world than my E92 M3. The torque, the sound. Sure I miss the crisp turn in and the quirky mid corner steering takes some getting used to, but once familiar with it the grip is more than adequate. ( I switched out the terrible run flats!) To me I would not have considered a Z4 until they came out with this, but the 35i is certainly a fine car.

The 35is is a great car and it has top-of-the-line bragging rights. However, the main reasons I didn't get it is because it has a price increase that I personally couldn't justify (esp since one can get superior aftermkt performance for cheaper cost), the price is high enough such that it is w/i striking distance of the Cayman S, which is a superior driver's car to both the 35i and 35is, and I didn't like the steering feel (Servotronic, that comes std in 35is but luckily only optional for the 35i).

I have only driven a z4 with dct, but not a m3. I didn't enjoy the DCT compared to when I drove the MT. For me I just love the feel of shifting and not "pulling/pushing" buttons. On the other hand, I can see why people love the 7-dct so much because it is pretty amazing. Perhaps, when I am older I will purchase a car with dct

I have spoken to Dinan (had a test 2009 35i) and others at length about the oil cooler issue. All I can say for sure is that some 2009 models came without the oil cooler and they appeared to be MT with no sport package. Although almost all 35i cars have the OC, your odds seem to increase if you order the Sport Package or DCT, or both. In the end, almost all N54 equipped Z4s have the OC but there are some roaming around without it as crazy as that may be.

Wrong,
Itś the same P/N on 35i and 35iS 01 Oil cooler 1 17217585717 Rumors indicate that some early 2009 models did not get the oil cooler, itś now standard. Not sure I understand (beefed)

My 09 didn't have an oil cooler, hence why it kept heating up and getting to limp mode at the track

Regardless of which one you choose if it's stock it'll still smoked by a 5 year old SLK55 which sucks.
I've driven an iS and you can feel the extra power but it's still not enough. The Powerkit they sell should be good for 350+ HP & TQ instead of ~ 335.

Stock 35i - tested at 4.3 - 4.8 seconds 35is -I believe about a tenth or two faster than a 35i (4.2 - 4.6? ) I don't think any car is really getting smoked by any of the others, 0-60. Everyone's definition of "smoked" may differ. 1/4 mile could be different. Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 08-23-2011 at 02:22 PM.. |

^^ Ya through 60mph it's close with a 35iS. I haven't seen any 35i clock better than 4.8 0-60.
Q/M the SLK wins hands down. They'll run 12.5 - 12.7s & trap 111+ mph all day long. The fastest stock N54 I've seen is the 1M which did it in 13 flat at 109. An iS should keep it close but won't outrun it. They were rated at 349HP & 376TQ.

DCT and Launch Control for Z4s have evened the playing field with the more powerful SLK 55 in the 0-60. On Wikipedia, I'm seeing 360 HP/380TQ for the 2006 SLK 55 AMG. |

FYI, Zero to 60 times has published 4.3 as the 0-60 time for the 35is, not the 35i. |
