Wow I'm pretty surprised over all the whining. If you don't want to spend the money on the car, don't, it's really that simple.
But let's be real the newest Z4 can't be compared to the previous model, no way-no how. This car is so far superior in evey aspect- engine, chasis, interior, hardtop...etc, what else do you want? Actually I'm a bit surprised with all the advances the price jump wasn't higher. Can't wait to drive one and will consider at my current lease's end. And for the comparison with a Boxster S, please. If you prefer Porsche, there isn't anything wrong with that, but the Z4 is it's own model while the Boxster will always be the 911's and (now) Cayman's stepchild. BTW have fun taking that Porsche in for service a $500 a pop. Last edited by omg618; 03-21-2009 at 09:56 PM.. |

how do we know these prices are correct? Has BMW released pricing yet? It does seem odd that this new 3.5 Z4 will cost more than a 335convt... You've got the same "technology" with the folding hard top, engine...

I can understand the disappointment though. BMW has a habit of pricing a car out of the hands of current owners. If I bought a Z for 35k today, I would probably want to buy an all new one 4yrs later for 37ish. Thats not the case. You'll end up paying about 7-10k more. Its a fact of life.

wow, the pricing seems off mark. With this economy, there are deals out there on pre-owned cars that are particularly new, and at a much higher level than the Z4. The base E92 M3s price, new, is in its 50s.

My pops has an 07 M coupe, and I have an 08 135i, so they are decently comparable cars in certain respects. The Z4 sdrive35i will have the N54 engine, but be some 400 pounds HEAVIER than my 135i. My dad's M Coupe already feels much lighter and more tossable than my 135i--what about when you add 400 more pounds to what the engine is pushing around? I also cannot see the brakes and suspension being superior to the current Z4 M, which BMW is admittedly trying to pass off as a non-M filler. Again, my dad's car has the brakes from the E46 CSL, not to mention an engine that revs to 8200!!!!! There is no comparison as far as I am concerned. Don't get me wrong--I love the N54 in my 135i, but it is a completely different animal than the bullet-proof, high reving engine you find in the M coupe. No comparison at all. I am also not a fan of the look of the new car. First impression brings words to my mind such as soft....bloated. The current Z4 is menacing....intimidating....and the M version is very focused. This new car looks like some bullshit you would see a 60 year old bag driving. Sorry--not for me. It looks like the Cayman is in the family's future......

The Z4 sdrive35i is only 44 pounds heavier than your 135i.

I thought I saw something that it was coming in around 3900 lbs? If I am wrong--then I apologize.
Regardless--since my 135 is somewhat piggy itself, I cannot imagine this new Z4 being in the same realm of responsiveness that I have come to know and love with the 07 Z4 M coupe.....

With all seriousness, new z4 started to look ugly to my eyes.
Somehow all these headlight/hood/bumper/side marker make the car look cheap. There's no elegance to it. And damn $60k for the z4? I don't care how well it performs but I would totally get cayman over this. No second thought. |
