The Z4 is a more all-around car. It's not as sharp as a Porsche but it's much more comfortable.
My main complaint about the Cayman S (I had one before the Z4) is the noise from the engine at cruise speed on the highway (a central engine in a small car means you actually sit on the engine)
+1

Test drove the Boxster with PDK before buying the Z4 35is

I have the exact same remarks as G_Stark !

I'm pretty sure we get the idea. You personally don't like paddle shifters. Am I getting warm?
What I still can't seem to figure out is why we're all supposed to care.

Why do people ask the opinion of others when the topic is so personal and subjective?

My opinion: Buy the car YOU like and YOU want, and stuff everyone else.

And why do people compare a convertible and coupe? Surely people either want one or the other?
I cant imagine buying a Z4 and leaving the roof up all the time.

Considering the current conditions over there, you may want to reconsider

Not for a minute.

Current count:

Owned 6 months
Roof up: approx 20 days
Roof down: approx 130 days
Not driven / travelling: approx 30 days

No comparison. I NEED a convertible, dont WANT a coupe.

Cayman is better in track, but the Z4 sounds better, feels better, looks better and have tons of more options.

After all people dont look at porsches anymore they all look the same, The Z4 is another story though trust me.

If the Cayman S was a convertible and had a better PDK it probably would have been my car (if the stealership wasn't that cocky).
With the current Z4 setup (DCT+hardtop+twin turbo engine(TUNING!) AND a responsive dealership, it was a no brainer for me.
Maybe next time, when buying the 911 GT3RS in a convertible edition at another stealership ...

future z4 owner here. yes i do think z4 can be construed a bit "ricey" but you have to also keep in mind that, by the same great mindset, cayman is a bit "trailer-parkish"...

so u have a choice. do you want to be a cool asian? or a cool redneck.

haha

btw, i'm an asian

Seriously, who "turn head" for Porsches nowadays? They all look the same. You see one you see them all. "That is the small Porsche, that is the big one, that is the long one, that is the older one."
The issue with designing all your car to look the same is, you may be driving that 911GT5Z11 super-special-light-as-paper-expensive-as-healthcare-reform-edition, but for most people you are driving a Porsche like every other porches on the road.

The sheer beauty of the Z4 is something that grows on me daily. So much so that it would be hard for me to objectively answer your question...but it would be the zed for me...especially if it a space gray one. 8)

BTW...slightly off topic but are the 35is's depreciating in value that quickly? You are getting a steal of a deal if the only thing missing is Park Distance Sensors. Aren't fully loaded Z4s 35is's running near $74,000 new with all options?
