Ok, I've only had the Indy 500s for a week or so but so far much better than I expected. I guess I may not be pushing my car as hard as some guys but so far so good, I definitely don't think that the Michelins are worth 2x as much. The ride may even been smoother and quieter. Will see more after I do some roadtrips in these.

Good to hear that you are liking them. Thats all that matters.
Indy 500-s seem to be hard to get in my area.. not popular i guess to keep in stock. I found out that PS5S is probably going to launch in January next year. So its an option for next years summer. This year its still PS4S. I was recommended Goodyear F1 Supersport tires aswell. So thats another option.

Ya, so far so good, esp from a cost perspective, and also I don't think that the Michelins are that much better, esp 2x better. I'll see as I get more seat time.

Ok, I got more seat time and flung the car around a bit (w/i reason on public roads). Personally, I don't think that the Michelins are worth the premium for road use, I don't feel any difference and don't think they are almost 2x the price of the Indys.
I found my go-to tire for the indefinite future. Firestones.

Im still looking for a new set, but it seems really hard to find Michelin PS4S or even older Supersport as a complete set. Some webshops do list rear PS4S but its seems like its impossible to find front 19 inch tires. Cant find them listed anywhere.
Guess global rubber shortage has some play in this...

FWIW I’ve gone with the new Conti Sports Contact 7..
Running two sets of wheels one with the MP4S on 437M rims at 235/35 19 and 275/30 19 and Contis on Apex Arc-8s on 235/35 19 and 275/30 19 on 8.5J and 9.5J rims.. The Contis are a far better tyre for the E89 if handling and feel are your priorities…not sure what the tyre life expectancy is..the MP4S rears will be toast in around 5-6k miles Last edited by B21; 06-17-2022 at 11:32 AM.. I found this as well even though I went down in aspect on my E46 M3. Happy with my purchase, though the word is getting out and the Firehawks aren't as cheap as they used to be. At least the 19s. BTW if not already mentioned in this thread the Indy 500 is a rebranded Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline (letters and numbers I don't remember), formerly only available in Europe. Just in case anyone is holding off due to the Firestone brand.

Reviving this thread because my new to me 2012 e89 has 9 year old front and 10 year old rear rft Potenzas and they have got to go.
Anyone with the Indy 500s that can give feedback on wear rate? These tires have no warranty so curious what one can expect. |

I personally think they are great, definitely way better value than the PS that I've always had and seem to last longer. I don't think that the Michelins are worth 2x as much so I'd be rocking the Indys indefinitely.

A few times, but ofc I never push it whenever it's like that. Seems stable. Go for it.

Tires?
Endless debate. TireRack.com has a lot reviews and a rating chart based on customer experience. I look for long wear (mileage) but know that that might not be the stickiest tire fore cornering. I also like quiet tires. Wet road performance is nice but I really only use the Z on top down days. True summer very high performance tires are nice and some are good on the track but some of them are not great as it cools down into the 50s at night in the mountains. Also the sticky compound wears out quickly.
So it all depends on where you drive and when. For me, I have found that all season run flats in our sizes now seem to perform pretty well, but are very expensive. My driving has relaxed lately but I am still willing to pay for a good reliable well constructed tire and drive it within its limits, which are likely high enough for me on public roads. |

I ended up replacing my Bridgstone runflats on my 35is with Hankook Ventus Evo V12s, as it was difficult at the time to find the Michelin, which I originally wanted. I've been quite impressed with them. Much better ride, great grip, good value.

I recently put a set of these on my 2018 Mazda 3 and was amazed at the difference they made. They are rated right up there with the equivalent Michelin high performance all season by Tire Rack and are less money/more readily available.

We run the Indy 500 on both of our summer cars. Very happy with the way they handle and feel on the road. After doing a little research I found out the they are actually rebranded Bridgestone Potenza RE070s.

Michelin as i predicted did just launch a new tyre... In the naming scheme they have now switched the number and the S around and it is called Pilot Sport S5 (PSS5 in short) instead of PS5S. Now while yes basically PS4S replacement has been released its for now OEM only. So only way to get it is with a brand new car that comes with them from factory.
There will be a PS4S replacement coming mid-term that everybody can buy and install for their cars. So does mid-term mean that maybe in june-july there will be a newer option from Michelin that we can actually buy and fit? Anyway getting hands on new michelin tire model is close... Though not so close to be able to buy a set this spring. This spring they still offer PS4S. A video for whoever wants more information:

Will be interesting to see if it goes down to 19” That’s the problem with a lot of the new UUHP tyres..only available in big rim diameters.. The Conti SC7 is only really available in 19” and up..

Im sure there will be more options in the future.. there are only 4 available tyre sizes (width/sidewall height) listed on their website.. there surely must be more sizes coming... its just the very first ones that got listed.. ditching 19" and offering a tire 20" and up i think would not be commercially a good decision... There are a lot more customers with 19" wheels out there than with 20" or 21".
