Did you drive the N54 before you bought to compare?

Sports and sports+ mode shifts faster than normal mode.
As to paddle vs. computer vs. transmission stick initiating the shift, it's all the same. Obviously, as everyone has said, uou'll get different shift RPM of course. |

OP ... I came across this ...
Go here for the 8 Speed Auto Transmission ---> Click to Open As for the use of the paddles on your steering wheel or changing gears from the stick I can only say this from experience (when now driving my M-DCT or my former sDrive Z4 35i) there is no one alive that can shift more efficient then the computer you have doing it for you (perhaps some very good F1 Drivers are very close). So use the stick or the paddles when you like to have some fun, I do

Using the stick or the paddles with the 7 speed DCT transmission selects the Manual mode program which features the fastest shifting speed available and requires Sport or Sport+ to be selected.
Normal mode does not provide fastest shifting program. Additionally, any changes made with the DSC button, one push or push and hold negates the fastest shift speed program.

So no sport power steering, stiffer suspension or very fast shifting with DSC OFF. Two comments: 1) This should be counted in when reading track reviews of the Z4. 2) Booooo!

i have a 8 zf speed. So that chart doesn't really help me. No I wasn't able to test the 3.5i before hand. I went 4 months without a car and was desperate to jump into a car. The dealer didn't have a 3.5i on the lot. I tested the 2.8i initially before i bought it. The paddles shifting felt great coming from a laggard Lexus. The initial torque felt good enough. I finally finished the breaking in period ( 1,600 miles), i started messing with paddles in higher rpms and just didn't know which one was faster leaving it auto shifting in sports + or manually paddling shifting it. But just wish there was more torque and power. I have sat in several friends Evo 8 / 9 / Vettes / C63. Those cars have mind blowing torque. I know, I know there will be no way i can compare a Z to those cars. But wish there was a bit more extra kick. |
