Why would X3 owners' knees be any different from Z4 owners knees?
My wife has that storage compartment in her F25 X3. It's nowhere near anyone's knees. The compartment in the E89 Z4 is in the actual knee bolster, as far as I can tell.

The Z4 is smaller than an X3, so it may have different safety regulations here in the US. Perhaps if the storage compartment is x number of inches from the left kneecap, it does not meet US regulations. ??

That's not the issue, I'll bet.

The X3 storage compartment is at exactly the same level as the glovebox on the passenger side.

The Z4 compartment is right in the knee bolster, but that's about where the Z4 glovebox is on its passenger side, too. I suspect the biggest issue is really that the driver shouldn't be digging around that low while driving and that nobody here trusts us to do so only while stationary.
