I think the point is even with JB+ and nothing else you can achieve the same power than this 35is. The difference is the chip is coming from BMW rather than a third party!
JB+ = $300 BMW tuning = wait till 2011 and pay another 10K |

The top of the n54 and n55 engines look really different, so in addition to what amdmaxx said "twin turbocharges" but the engine in the bay of the 35is is clearly a n54.
Top photo: n54 dual turbocharged engine (current Z4 35i engine). Bottom photo: n55 "twin-scroll" single turbocharged engine You'll notice the engine cover look completely different. On the twin turbo the cover goes all the way front to back with the oil filler cap in the middle. The BMW roundel in the front. On the single turbo engine, its cover is shortened because the turbocharger induction pipe crosses over the engine. Also, the oil filler cap and BMW roundel are side-by-side at the front of the engine. The air filter housings look different as well. |

IMO the rear bumper is ugly! It looks like the bottom is an add on and not part of the car. I really hate the rear bumper!
I agree why? The 2009 was introduced in May of 2009. The 2010 starting rolling off the production lines in October of 2009 and now the 2011's are going to be introduced in March of 2010. It doesn't make sense to me.

From the press release
It says the EPS and DCT have special programming for a sportier ride. Can this be implemented in the current 35i? Im thinking If there is such a thing as a transmission reflash, couple with a JB3 or engine reflash it will be just as good. Will love to hear how the signature exhaust sounds, if not, aftermarket exhaust should do the trick |

I would rather have seen them put the S65 V8 in it. And a more aggressive aero package to better differentiate it from a normal Z4.

I love it! The E89 seemed bland to me at first but this aero package brought it to life. I wonder how much the s package will cost and if they will possibly offer the standard 3.5 with a Msport package.

Glad BMW did this. The price is going to be a little too high though, since BMW offered a similar performance boost for the 135/335i cars at 2-3k (don't remember exact price). Along with the standard DCT, M-Sport suspension, M-Sport look, this, that... The car is definitely cost more than a M3 with DCT (and the M3 already has all the other additions). Although I understand the cars don't compete with each other, they are both BMW's pure sports cars, and it doesn't make sense for them to be priced exactly the same.
Also, what's with going from is to si to is? The X5 4.8is (many years ago), then came X3 3.0si, and now we're back to Z4 sDrive35is...can't they stick to something? Next you know, the 2016 7er comes out and it has 750iL (back to e38 years again). Or am I getting something wrong? |

Not feeling the kit and the Audi S4 mirrors.
But as expected, the M-Sport Steering Wheel will be available. There's one more mod on the list |

You are officially the first person that thinks the 2009/2010 Z4 is "bland".
