I don't get it. I've never owned a pickup truck in my life and can safely say I probably won't ever but even I know that if you put liquid or say sand in the bed, shits leaking out, lol.

That individual made it to adulthood somehow. That's the part that blows my mind.

Anyway, they made me feel like a princess and even sent a small bottle of champagne and flowers. It's only afterward that I realized that they had noticed my Canadian military plate. I did participate twice to the " Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen" while residing in Germany.
I was planning to walk with Dutch friends in 2020 but it was cancelled. Maybe next year. It's been on my bucket list for years.

Your experience with the Bell Boys is no surprise. They are trained to notice the details. Glad to know they took good care of you.

For daily use, you are absolutely right. But we move everything with our bicycles: groceries, christmastrees, sofas, you name it.

But don't get your car out on a beautiful sunny Sunday, cause these racers take all the space of the roads. In fact, in summer, on forums, FB, insta and so, it is 'racebikers against cardrivers', shtf often enough.

Aha so some of them have second 'weekender' racer bikes also. I admit I have two bikes myself, an alloy framed MTB with smooth tyres for fast road and an old steel framed one with 'mud plugger' tyres to venture into the woods.

Oh man I'm not sure I have ever felt more intimidated while driving than when I'm driving in Amsterdam. In fact, even while on foot in that city you need to seriously watch yourself or a mom and her 3 kids on a bicycle will not hesitate to run you over if you are in front of them.

Though trucks can be quite the convenient rides in need of space:

I'm no expert, but those beauties might be real. The parts that show through the shirt are in about the right spot rather than pointed at the sky.

Maybe an expert would like to chime in here and give us some guidance. Inquiring minds want to know.
