As I understand it, there are two strong blocking high pressure ridges that are preventing Irma from going east or west thereby forcing it to head north.

I just did a two hour loop and it doesn't look like the eye moved much at all. Strange.

Yeah, was a really nice day today. Like s brilliant start to a great weekend... Which will be squashed around 5am or so with loads of rain. Wind to follow. Praying it squats over the everglades and really weakens.

My parents took off to Columbia, SC. In-laws are riding it out.

My worst case scenario is it continuing west, into the gulf then making a hook back into the Bay Area as a much stronger and organized storm. If that happens, i think there is a chance we'll do a little dance move. Head east to the other side of the state, down to Ft. Lauderdale, then back up 75. Take a nap in the car somewhere in Miami.

We'll see.

Got a little concerned with some power surges about 15 minutes ago but as soon as I loaded up lanterns with batteries and got an air mattress inflated for a guest, they stopped. I live pretty close to Lion Country Safari and there was news of a tornado heading that way / local tornado warnings but overall still not bad out just minor rain and wind.

Yeah today was beautiful like the perfect beach day.

Both my wife and I are thinking the same thing. If it get any stronger we're going to high tail it out to Orlando and hope for the best.

Stay safe out there everyone.

Well we hoped we'd miss the worst of it but was thinking about it taking a sharp right into the Atlantic, not heading your way. Hopefully the worst case you described isn't what happens. Agree no interest in seeing Irma get a head of steam over warm waters.

took an evening drive here in Western KY (Paducah) off I-24. Too many electrical bucket trucks to count; some from as far away as Minnesota and Mass. Cruised through the Drury Inn parking lot - at least a dozen Florida plates, some Georgia, and the usual collection of Illinois and Missouri

looks like help is being staged to be on the way, whenever this is over

Noticed the same today in Nashville, tons of power trucks and tree crews headed south.

Sorry the webcam couldn't capture such a wide angle. And I figured in the dark it wouldn't see much if facing further right.

I'd happily take you up on the Lucali offer!
