Checking in from Cape Coral Fl at my parents house and/or grandmothers depending on where the storm makes landfall. The E90 is safely stored in the 6th floor of my Ft Lauderdale apartment complex parking garage next to an M4. Concrete building in the corner opposite of any opening so should be good. We left Fort Lauderdale as it was suppose to hit there but it seemed to follow us across the state hahahaha I'll keep everyone updated cause we will be bunkering in with most likely the eye of the storm.

There's about 15 of us not including another 5 or six kids. Debating on what to do now that forecast is putting Irma right in our sights. I may be the only sober one here so yea, definitely a hurricane party but you can see the fear in some of their eyes. Knew you would find us EnVe46. Keep us updated.

Pinellas County. A tiny island called South Pasadena, one bridge from the barrier islands. There's a bit of panic going on here. The news was all about Miami and going up the other coast. The last few hours the focus has been Naples and us. I'm in a secure building but this is not going to be good. We are all happy for Miami if this passes them up but not wanting it here.

We usually save the party for after the storm, but getting rid of the perishables is the goal.

Just cruised on I-95 to Aventura and only a few cars in sight. Call me crazy but I'm gonna take the Port of Miami tunnel (if not closed) so I can listen to my exhaust. Just because the end of the world is coming, doesn't mean I can't enjoy sweet music.

Saw a story that the director of the Hemingway museum in Key West was staying with 10 other employees and 54 cats... sometimes you just can't help stupid people!

Edit: For the rest of you more inland, good luck! Having ridden out storms before it's going to be hairy!

I just don't know. Why?
Up to 10' surge and no power for days. That's before the structure, possibly, being ripped apart. Anyone still down in the keys, is in trouble.

Reports of up to 2M, already, without power from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale.
This is going to be bad imo. That area will likely see big a big surge along with, up to, 20" of rain.

I'd like to bring up something positive but it really looks scary. If the loss of life is avoided then that is as positive as it gets, I suppose.
If you folks can get up to a second level, storm code building...do it. I have no idea how south Florida drains, so be prepared to be 'stuck' for awhile, with no power.
Water, meds, high protein dry goods, candles and patience. If possible, get a big cooler filled with ice. If without power and the sun returning, it will get hot. Leave the cooler shut until needed for heat relief. Wrap cold towels around your neck or lay them on chest. Especially helpful for the elderly.

Crazy stuff. The best of luck to you all.

About to head out and pick up my cousin in Aventura. Maybe I'll take some last minute photos in South Beach on the way up (if I'm allowed in) hoping things don't change drastically in the next 24-36 hours. Will be in touch with you all during this time.

Remember, if I die, save the damn manuals.

Edit: got an email from my job that we'll be closed on Monday as well. Now I am relieved.

It's more like 6,000 without power already in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale but agree on points about Keys. This is looking more and more like a bigger event for the Keys and west coast than Southeast, although there will still be at least tropical storm conditions here. Hope everyone is well prepared already and wish everyone the best.

I'm in St. Pete area. Wife left this morning with the little one to a friend's house in Virginia. We're not in a flood zone or evacuation zone, I'm mostly concerned with the high winds. I've boarded up the windows, we have a screened in patio on the north side of the house, we took all the patio furniture inside. BEST case scenario is Irma veers east and weakens to a cat 2 by the time it gets to us.
