That won't worry Max as he's so used to fighting without a wing man though it should give Checo the impetus to cut through the field to make up for his error.

Max absolutely owned that quali.
Merc screwed Russ with the move to slicks, he was much quicker in quali than Lewis. He was a top 4 position car. Alonso...bravo! |

Realistically barring any major shake-ups in a totally dry race, it would be an outstanding result in he can come in third.

Wonderful to see Alonso up there on the front row and an interesting starting lineup tomorrow. Max is the obvious front runner obviously, should be a fairly easy race for him I'd imagine.

Agreed on how great it is to see Alonso with a great run today! Love to see him on the podium tomorrow!
I know Monaco was a few weeks ago but I just ran across this tonight….absolutely spectacular footage from 1966! I just had to share. Ready for a great race tomorrow (although no Canadian GP could ever be as great / crazy as Button’s win in 2011). |

I thought Russel would do better in Q3, as he's very good in the rain/wet track.
Rain is the ultimate equal playing field. The best drivers showcase their talents. Not surprised to see Alonso on front row. I still believe, give that man a top car, and he fights for podiums every race. He is such a fantastic driver, especially at 40. |

ALO post-qualifying interview by Jacques Villeneuve:
Also in the past, VER made no secret that ALO is his favorite competitor on the grid. And vice versa. Lots of respect between those two. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z4ZAhuW6x-w See also here and here.

Deep bow to Alonso.
He should act like Max's wingman(first turn 'blocking' Carlos?) now Checo isn't there. Cheers Robin |

It was a brave move by RUS. He was the only one on softs (that warm up quickest). Could have gotten him P1. If it had worked, it would have been applauded. Raceline was dry in many parts: risky choice but no reckless one. Respect for the guts to give it a try.
