BMW recommends higher rear tire pressure in 35is?
They recommend 44psi/300kPa vs 42psi/290kpa for the 35i with sport package. 19inch rims. I wonder what the reason for the higher rear pressure is??

It is directly from the BMW online owner's manual here: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/dgh.aspx
And it is for up to 100mph. So basically for the 35i it recommends 42psi UP TO 100mph and 44psi above 100mph. For the 35is it remains at 44psi for all speeds. I also notice for the NON-SPORT PACKAGE cars the recommedation stands at 42psi for all speeds. Strange - must be a typing mistake or BMW reckon the sport package makes so sort of difference...added downforce? (This is for 19inch rims BTW) |

The reason for it was advanced inside tire edge wear on my rear wheels. Caused apparently by the additional weight of the retractable roof in the trunk along with luggage weight. In the words of the Tire Shop SM. "Your car has a 2.5 degree rear camber and with the roof in the trunk along with luggage this is quite normal for this type of car, increase rear tire pressure by 4 psi to wear your tread somewhat more evenly"
