Using 18 inch for Winters
I was wondering if your car comes with the 19's and you wanted to drive it in the winter. Could you put 18" wheels with winter tires on it? Would it work if you bought the car with adaptive ride? Or does that even matter?

Most 17" wheels will clear the brake calipers on the 35i. There shouldn't be any fitment problems with 18" wheels. The M suspension wouldn't care. Tirerack should give you some good ideas.

I've only found three 17" wheels for the Z4, 2 from BMW and 1 from Rial [Salermo] which have the offset and inside profile to clear the calipers, ended up going with BMW for the snow

I am planning to go for 19's even for winter, but in Europe we don't have such severe winters.
I understand the diameter itself doesn't matter but most people would prefer to have narrower tires (which will cut through snow) which come with smaller diameters. |

That is the exact setup for my car, but it hasn't been delivered yet, so it doesn't really prove anything. But like others have said, there should be no reason why it wouldn't work, and the tire width is far more important than the diameter.
