How much will the Z4 cost?
I was going to Autobid to look at there new renderings of the Z4, and thought I would translate the site through google and try to read it.
The number one thing that stood out to me was what they think it will cost!!! They estimate that the car will take a HUGE,GIGANTIC jump in price and start at 43,000 Euro, or $54k. WOW!! That will surely outprice many people, including me. By the time options are put on the car it could be well over $60k. That will make a base SLK and Boxster, even the Cayman cheaper. I think it will be a huge mistake to start the car at a price any higher than 45k. http://www.autobild.de/artikel/auto-...z4_796827.html |

Prices in Germany:
E89 Z4 3.0i Roadster 272hp 43,000EUR (Autobild prediction) E85 Z4 3.0si Roadster 265hp 42,250EUR (BMW.de) MB SLK 280 231hp 41.858EUR (MB.de) MB SLK 350 305hp 46,975EUR (MB.de) E93 330i Cabrio 272hp 49,300EUR (BMW.de) I think 43,000eur for the E89 would be really good value if you compare how much more you get in comparison to the E85 (hardtop, new engine, more hp...). Also if you compare it to the Mercs. You can also think how much the E89 will cost if you think that with 49,300eur you will get 4-seater hardtop cab with the same engine... |

I did not realize how much cheaper it is to buy in the US. US prices below are before all taxes. MB SLK 300 ($46,825) ~37,592 Euro (MBUSA.com) MB SLK 350 ($51825) ~41,600 Euro (MBUSA.com) BMW z4 3.0si ($42,700) ~34,280 Euro (BMWusa.com) BMW 328i Convert 230 hp ($44,300) ~35,565 Euro(BMWusa.com) BMW 335i Conver 300hp ($50,400) ~40,462 Euro (BMWusa.com) ---> Wow 9,000Euro cheaper here I think that if the cheapest z4 will be priced at 43000 Euro or $54k in the Us, it will be a huge mistake. I think then they should offer a smaller engine and start the car at ~$40-45k, like MB or even the Boxster. To think the Z4 will start at about 15% more than the competitors will be a mistake. Autobid even seems to imply that adding 10,000 euro ($12-13k) to the base is a huge increase. |

The new Z will for sure move upclass, as did the E93, but if I can remember correctly there should be a 2.5si (with 3 liter engine) at the release, so then there would be "a cheaper" choice available to begin with. As said, smaller engines will follow like they did with the E93.

and another.... Hang? Hang what? So the price of a BMW makes it better than other BMW's or automobiles in general. ...here's another.... I know guys that drive Honda's that could probably buy you out X1000. Oh, here's another for good measure. Your comments are right up there with the most arrogant and idiotic I have read on here to date. CONGRATULATIONS!

Way to own the second cheapest M car. IMO M cars should be over $90k, so people would stop acting like they can hang with the people that can afford the lifestyle and real high preforming cars. Also if BMW stopped making cars under $50k, there would be no more BMW as you know it. Because you could eliminate all 1 series, 3 series, x3's, the previous Z series, and half of the 5 series and x5's since they all start under $50k. |

LOL!!!! you two are not too bright... you just used a double standard. why would owning the better balanced M that only costs $71k, be an indication of my finances??? you're both on a need to know basis, and you need to know that i also own an '08 M-B CL600 and an '08 RR sport HSE, well over $250k for three cars, and that it's no indication of my "financial cap" either... dumb asses... |

I am not going to go back and forth with you because it will go no where. I am sure many people reading this thread can tell what type of man you are, based off your character, class, and intelect I would not guess too great of one. You can have the last word, because what ever your response will be I am sure it will lack anything I want to be a part of any further. Have fun with your lifestyle, sounds like it is really fulfilling and happy, lol. By the way "dumb ass", way to comment on the fact that BMW would not even be around as we know it if it were not for those cars selling under $50k, I would guess that the vast majority of their cars sold start under $50k. |

I think the best to do in this situation is to move on.
I live in a fairly wealthy community and know alot of people who are gracious about their money and alot who are arrogant. But I can honestly say, the arrogant ones don't even talk the way this guy does. My only assumption has to be that he is a child and hes talking about his parent's money or has in some other way received money without actually earning it. "if you have to ask, you can't afford.." thats really funny. That is of course the classic advertising slogan of Rolls Royce, which they don't even use anymore because its so rediculous. Anyone who buys a car in this class without caring about the price is just plain dumb. Knowingly spending more money for something you value higher then other people is one thing, but giving money away for no reason what so ever is simply stupidity and/or immaturity. I am curious. For someone who obviously values money so much and who forms their self image based on the $ value of their possetions, why would you stoop so low as to owning a BMW Z4? It seems beneath you. Especially considering the CL600 and a HSE Sport. But as the other Z4 enthusiasts have noted. Lets just ignore and move on with the important bussiness at hand.. the Z4, not high school kids! |

I'll be very interested to see where this car falls. At under $40,000, it's going to be very attractive. At over $40,000 (where it seems most likely to fall), it starts going up against some tough competition. If it gets too close to the Boxster's price, it's going to be tough not to take the lighter, mid-engine performance standard.
. . . not to mention that at over $40,000, you start attracting the idiots who are more interested in demonstrating that they can afford a "lifestyle" than driving. |

Upper 40's will get my eyes looking at other makes I am sure. It is a gorgeous car though and I really like the improved interior. I will just wait and see the real numbers.
Reading the brilliant replies will lead to the ignore feature. Let's talk about the e89 and move along.

I think it will be around 45K, if they go higher than that they'll lose a lot of customers.
