Drivers side lid not unlocking from top down position.
Not sure what happened but now after fixing everything else when attempting to put the top back up the drivers side top latch that holds the rear lid is not unlocking which the passenger side is functioning. I can hear sounds of mechanics whirring but it will not unlock the driver side. Attached pic of what I the result is. No error codes from this malfunction which leads me to believe that maybe its a failed electronic latch.

Two things...
Did you check to see if the coupler you installed is a one way flow... in other words does it flow both directions? Could there be air in the line, possibly induced during the install? You might need to bleed it out, to allow the fluid to do its hydro thing! Keep us posted, plz. |

This situation is typically for hydraulic rams, which operate with different speeds on both sides. Maybe a result of "roof violence", defect of the hydraulic pump after massive water ingress and so on. Which hose did you repair with this coupler? On your pics it's one into the roof shell, isn't it? |

Hi Robbi,
Yes, this would be one of the lines that goes into the roof shell on the passenger side. There was a leak which I caused while unbundling cables to redo microswitch wiring. I was able to purchase and install the coupler and it fixed the leak. I cycled through closing and opening several times as the system charged itself up. After I thought all was good I went for a fun drive with the top down. When I got back to my garage I decided to close the top and that's when I noticed the driver side lid not unlocking. The system continues to whirry and push but cannot move because the drivers side is locked. Im trying to find a way to release the drivers side locking mechanism so I can manually open to get at the mechanics. I believe the pic below is the lid locking mechanism on the drivers side which I need to find a way to release in order to allow the lid to open: |

I will definitely make a video to share. But it looks like it may take a while as I've called and searched online for the part# 83-30-0-496-598 and it seems there aren't any in the US. It will take a month before I receive it if I order from Germany. I'm still searching but if I decide to do that I will probably order 5 and post in classifieds for others.

It's not a standard everyday tool for everyone, so I wouldn't try to order a whole lot of them. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...l/83300496598/

It was built and tested by me. On the photo you'll see my solution, rod & grip to push.
It's just to push the pivot joint. No screw no hex, no torx. |

Its has been fixed. I was able to create RobbiZ4 tool from my local hardware store but I could not figure out how to get to unlock the mechanism with it.
But while inspecting to find what im doing wrong I happened to see this- So instead I wedged a long screwdriver in the slot and then lined it up through the opening where it is supposed to be screwed into - Once I did that I engaged the top to go up and it finally released the lid. After releasing I found that there was an E-clip which came off that holds a pin in place at that joint. After finding one at the local hardware store I pushed the pin in that location and put in the E-Clip and all is well. I opened and closed the top about 20 times to ensure everything is working! Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and help as it brought me through the course of fixing my top. Last edited by Rah-Vee; 04-03-2024 at 12:46 PM.. |
