DavesZed

Volume buttons on steering wheel and knob on head unit did not do anything.

Yes, phone sees Mr12volt in Bluetooth.

OK, troubleshooting........

Did you set the dipswitches on the mmi box correctly to ALL off?

In the coding, you changed the "CDMM_CHANGER_3" from "cdc_vorbereitung" to "mp3_cdc"?

And you coded 672 to the VO and then FA-WRITE to CAS and NFRM and the SG_CODEIREN to CIC?

Hmmm

OK, I've an idea.....
There is a Reset button on the front of the mmi box, so I'd suggest this first followed by unplugging the box completely and putting the car back as it was (don't screw things back together just plugs etc). Then start the iDrive system up as you would normally, then turn it off, lock the car and walk away for at least 15 minutes to let the car systems go to sleep.
Then replug the box back in as it should be and see it it then works. I'm hoping this will cure it, but it's certainly worth a shot anyway.

DavesZed I have tried the reset button before without success. I'll try switching back to stock iDrive and allow the system to reset as you suggested and then report back. Thanks for your input!

If this doesn't work then it's worth doing a firmware update. Link here...
https://www.mr12volt.com/pages/p2000...ftware-updates

And looking at the changelog for it they've just issued and update middle of last month that may help, see screenshot....

Okay. I have tried everything with no success. I'm done with trying for a MOST solution. Wishing I had just left my AUX kit at this point.

What's the best AUX CarPlay box on the market these days?

Thanks all, particularly DavesZed for the suggestions!

I’m totally happy with the PEMP unit that I bought off Amazon. Very easy to install and small enough to fit up under the passenger footwell access panel. No need to tear apart the dash or pull out the glovebox to mount. I couldn’t imagine paying over twice the price for essentially the same box from another vendor.

Does this system default to the CarPlay system when the car is started? May seem silly but that is an important feature to me.

I just searched Amazon… does this replace the iDrive? I'm looking for a system that uses the stock iDrive screen.

There’s two pemp systems. One is for cars without Idrive or serves as a total replacement for the existing Idrive screen, replacing it with a touchscreen that does not retract into the dash. That runs around 850. The one I have is the add on box for the existing Idrive system and uses the built-in screen. It goes for 330. Again, it’s pretty much the same as the Bimmertech, Andream, etc….boxes

Yes, if you had it set to CarPlay when you turn off your car, it’ll go back to CarPlay when you start it the next time.

Here’s what I have: https://www.amazon.com/PEMP-Wireless...dp/B096KGH71N/

That's a shame it couldn't get sorted out.
Did you try the update?

I can offer my services to come over from the UK, at cost, if you'd like me to

DavesZed I tried the update as well as putting the car back to stock and letting it sit. I even disconnected the battery for a bit in another attempt.

In a different life (pre-kids), I may have actually taken you up on your offer! Haha

Do you have any suggestions for AUX CarPlay boxes? I'm looking into the PEMP one linked above (thanks DarkAether !)

It’s actually a quick tap on the phone button to activate Siri. I’m assuming they did this because they didn’t want to interfere with the stock system voice control.

Dave - have read as many of your posts (and youtube vids) so I apologize if this has already been covered. I have not worked on my 2014 E89 other than to change oil, brakes, etc. I purchased the Mr12VOlt this week to add Carplay and the installation instructions are minimal at best. I have the 677 HiFI option but dont have a CD Changer. Will I need to do any coding to get the unit to work? Thanks Mark

In short, yes quite possibly.
Although you don't have CDC you may have CDC Prep (code 694) from the factory. If you have then this should still work. To know for sure though you'd need a VIN check.

If you have a look at this video at 40:15....

I show how to do coding to the headunit, CAS and NFRM, which are the same three modules you'll need to code in for the CDC. So instead of any of the codes in that video just code in $672, but follow the same steps. Do all of this coding BEFORE you install the Mr12volt, otherwise you wont be able to code the CIC afterwards.
If you want to use the Voice button on the steering wheel, then I suggest you follow the coding as shown at 26:10 on this video,

where I suggest changing the wording for "SVC" from "aktiv" to "nicht_aktiv", but what I did forget to mention in that video is to remove $620 from the VO coding. This can be done at the same time as putting $672 into the VO, all you do is find $620 in the list, click it to highlight it, and then click the Delete button just once to remove it. Then code CAS, NFRM & CIC. What this does is to remove BMW Voice from the car, then once you press the Voice button on the steering wheel it'll just activate Siri or Hey Google (whichever phone you use) BUT this will remove the option to use BMW Voice from that point forward!!

I am currently putting together another video on the different aspects of the current Mr12volt box, the extra coding and and all that is involved and has changed since I did the original video.
