Add mine to the list of affected vehicles. Driver's side way too low. Will be bringing it in soon...

It's been a while since I've read the full threatd- but was there any mention of this problem occurring in other xenon-equipped BMW vehicles or is it an isolated case for the E89?
With all the corner cutting and parts sharing, I'd imagine the E9x should have similar issues? I wonder how much something like this would cost out of warranty to fix. |

Hi All,
My car has been having the same issue but it has been out of warranty for almost an year. (2009 35i model) Anybody have luck with the BMW USA customer relations department? If so, whom did you speak to? No luck for me at the dealer...other than replacing the entire headlight units which is just crazy! Last edited by orionsilver; 09-28-2014 at 08:24 PM.. |

Complained to my dealer (though I still have the extended maintenance warranty) and they adjusted the aim of my headlights and fixed the low cutoff on both the drivers and passengers sides. Can actually see the road very well now, though I occaisionally get the brights flashed at me by oncoming drivers. They are extremely surprised when I flash my brights back!

It doesn't seem like a ridiculous cost if out of warranty. I haven't personally run into this for E90 and F30 or read about it in those forums so my personal GUESS is that it is an E89 specific issue |

I finally sold my car because of this. I thought it was fixed, and each time hitting a bump made the problem return. Even if one of the below is the actual solution, there's always another bump waiting for you.
The problem can't be in the headlights themselves since both headlights malfunction in unison. Re-aiming the headlights does not help. The problem seems to always come and go; if they re-aim them up while the lights are down, when the lights return to normal they'll point to the tree tops. I've had my leveling sensors replaced. I've had my computer replaced and reprogrammed with the latest software. The problem still comes back. My suspicion is the problem still isn't corrected in the newest software. There's a stretch of road near me that due to construction has a bump about every 200 feet. You can see the headlights readjust after each bump, sometimes up, sometimes down. After several of the bumps, they just stay down. |
