Tire Recommendations
I managed to eek out 21k miles on the orignal rft. Can you guys give me some recommendations on replacement non rft? I live in Florida so snow and ice is not an issue. Heat and rain obviously are.
Thanks |

I just love my new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Definitely a huge improvement over the OEM RFT.

I got the Continental Extreme Contact DW's from tirerack. Like them a lot so far, but anything would have beat the RFT's!!

I'm using Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. Love them!
You might find this useful, here's a tire comparison from Car and Driver http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests |

Bumping this thread since it's almost time for me to change tires. What would you recommend for a good summer tire set? What should I expect to pay for a whole set and also for mounting to my rims? Thx.
My OEM fronts are still very good but my rears are almost bald...is this usually the case and what do you do w/ your nearly good front tires? Seems like such a waste. |

Michelin Pilot Super Sport is all good reviews so far.
I'm using the Yokohama AD08, It's pretty amazing for me right now, and has great reputation.

AMEN! These are the very best tires you can buy for the e89 - period. Place these on your Z and you will have transformed the car. We put these on about 2k miles ago and will never put anything else on the car. I had the Continental Extreme Contact DW's (not all season) on the Z before this and they were very good, but the Michelins are worth every penny.

Wow, great endorsement on those Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Sounds good. Should the tire sidewall numbers exactly match up w/ my OEM rfts? I'm a total noob when it comes to switching rubbers. Do I need to make any changes, e.g. camber, tire pressure, etc? Just switch out my old rubbers for new ones and that's it?

I assume that means the best tires for the Z4, period, right, since non-rft>rft performance-wise?
EDIT: Ok guys, I got a quote and am wondering if you think it's good: 225/40ZR18 XL 92Y $339 255/35ZR18 XL 94Y $395 -balance/mounting included So, total is $1,488, pre-tax (incl 13% tax, ~$1,681). Are the sidewall #s correct? What do you guys think of the price? Someone else recommended Continental ExtremeContact DW (link for reviews), not sure what you guys think? Would be great if you guys can respond quickly since my rear tires are dead and I need to switch ASAP. Thx!! Last edited by tranquility; 06-13-2012 at 03:48 PM.. |

The Continental Extreme Contact DW is a really good tire and way better than OEM RFT or any RFT. I had a set on the e89 before the Michelins, the Michelins are ridiculous sticky but more expensive - you can't go wrong with either, but if you want the very best and the price difference is not an issue, go Michelin.
I went a width larger with 235-40 up front and 265-35 in back. The stock 19" rims can handle 10mm wider if you wish with no problem. You have listed the stock size tire and that is fine too. |

I like my Yokohama ENVigors if you want a nice UHP all season tire.

For tire wear estimate and comparison look at the UTQG rating for each tire - the higher the number the longer they are suppose to last (also typically means they are "harder"/have less grip - i.e. the reason they last longer).

I went Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 because they were best available when I needed some in a hurry (down to the canvas on the rear RFT on the inner edge.)
I have not looked back on grip or wear, including at the track. They give a lot of feedback on traction. About the only tyre I would consider when time comes to replace them is the Pirrelli P Zero as used on the M3.

Appreciate all the input. I was going to get the Contis because I'm a very high mileage driver but like jparnes1 said, they don't make them anymore. So, going with the PSS now. Thx again.
