I mean not just from the group you were with. I'm sure there were people who work at the complex that thought "hey, that looks cool" and snapped a picture. Just wishful thinking I guess. Man, what did you do to be picked for one of these things? Care to share your secret?

I guess the term "Rag Top" is becoming obselete. Tin top just doesn't quite sound the same, oh well. I think the 3.oTT will be the biggest selling point, although they have to know that people will not be happy with a small trunk, they found that out with the Z3, thats why they went to runflat tires, BMW said the Z4 must pass the 2 golf bag test, i guess we have to wait and see As soon as i saw the trunk space in a pontiac solstice i walked a way, couldn't even get my gym bag in it

And you have to know, you need to GET OUT of the car to put the roof down on a Solstice... What were they thinking?!?
And although you guys say this car may be de-banglized, you have to be aware, he still has his hands on everything that comes out of BMW. Its just a "new" bangle design. Could the new Z4 bare any resemblance to this: http://www.pistonheads.com/fastcars/bmw/x-coupe.htm ? The X Coupe concept? |

Everything I've read sounds great except.... I dont think I want a 2 seater that is larger (width and length) than the current Z4.

That's the one that everyone was speculating = Z8
But now, ....maybe it is the Z4 proto. Take away all the camo armour & it would look a lot smaller too.

Any mention of the rumored Z2? Since they're swelling the Z4, that would open up the lineup for a smaller 'vert.

I understand what you said about it being a new version of the Z4, but I have a hard time believing that they'd change it that dramatically without giving it a new number designation as well. You know, marketting it as the "next step in Z series evolution" or some such. I could be wrong, of course.
Thanks for all the info, Zoomers. Totally awesome. Did they by any chance give any hint as to when they are envisioning its possible release?

I'm mostly concerned about weight and trunk space. I don't care about a hardtop if it eats all my trunk space and weights a lot more than a soft top. The current Z4 has the lowest power to weight ratio relative to engine type of all models in the BMW range. It's better than the competition as well. I wouldn't like the Z4 replacement to be the next Brera (the 3538 lbs / 1605 kg Alfa '159 Convertible').

Nice writeup. Can't wait for the car to be officially released. That said on the hardtop i'm iffy...though I like the idea of a convertable hardtop way better than a rag. That said ALOT of people I know think convertable hardtops grow on trees and keep asking me why I didn't get one.
Bottom line, if it looks as good as you say, I hope I can afford it. Shoulda told them ya'll would pay 30k TOPS.... I kid i kid, but that would be awesome.

No word on when, or if, the prototype will ever make it to production. Also, the guys who led the group forum said that they "weren't" bmw reps/designers/enginners/etc., but I have my doubts. I think they "might" have been engineers because they didn't talk like no marketing or PR guys to me. I could be wrong but I have my doubts.

Oh, the rear is nothing like what I saw. The rear of the prototype has lights similar to the current 6 series and it looked very good.

agreed with the hard top, a no go due to trunk space. If I wanted a hard top, I'd have gotten the Mercedes.
Just makes me all the more glad to have the model I have.....I'm hanging on to mine. Rozie
