On the rear view mirror, the one inside of the car there was a black dot on it? Is this normal? the dealer said it was to dim lights, but i have an audi a5, and it does not have a black dot and it still does the job. please help |

its the sensor to darken the mirrors when theres headlights behind you.
Its a lil oversensative IMHO, mine gets dark even when theres noone behind me.

Its not a dot, it is a hole in the mirroring silver to let light through to a sensor in behind the mirror.
Your Audi must have its sensor somewhere else. It is very common for cars with auto dimming mirrors to have a sensor mounted in the actual mirrors. Otherwise they would dim only when a bright light hits the sensor and not when a bright light hits the mirror. (which is why they should dim)
