I am wondering, is anyone running COBB on their N54 Z4? If yes, is their car a DCT?

I haven't seen any specific posts about COBB + DCT but I do know, from what I have read, that increased power mapping does confuse the DCT system though. The increase power mapping does not properly line up with the gearing map, especially when you go WOT. Need to drive it in manual to get best result when more power, takes the confusion away.

Yea, i've been saying for a long time now that the DCT needs some reprogramming for higher power levels than stock Unless you drive it on Manual mode. I also started a DCT reprogramming thread some time ago asking about it.

I was surprised about the limited gains through COBB. Stage 1 is only 20 & 20 and stage 2 and 2+ require bolt on mods (downpipes and fmic I believe) to get more. For $100 more than COBB, ESS will provide greater HP and TQ without needing any other mods. But, COBB does offer some cool user features.

Apparently not That big of a gain for the 35is. This is straight from COBB...
Re: Stage 1 & 2 Tunes for 2012 Z4 35is -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Laurence, Power gains are going to be pretty nice for the Z4 35is. Because of the shared motors and powertrain, power gains will be almost identical to the 335is. The 35is tuning is fairly aggressive from the factory, but our Sport and Aggressive Stage 1 maps will add about 20 HP and 20 lb/ft of torque all across the power band. Then, as you modify your car, you can use our Stage 1+, Stage 2, or Stage 2+ maps as free downloads from our website for more power. Map switches take only a few minutes and you can log all kinds of ECU data using only the AccessPORT. If you have any other questions, let me know! The 35is has upgraded water/oil coolers, but not an aftermarket FMIC. I'm wondering what the HP/TQ increases and curves look like for your Accessport. So far, I like what ESS has, but I like the added features COBB offers. Here's my email if you can send me any dynos for a stock 35is. I am personally running the V4 maps from Cobb and power is definitely significant, Car feels completely different. Right now only on Stage 1 with Catless DP and custom rear mufflers. I think there's been some huge power gains with the V4 maps compared to the maps previously released so that might be some of the confusion with small gains on Cobb.

And regarding the request for different DCT maps, I am actually happy with how mine shifts well before 7000rpm in S mode. Only in M mode does it pull all the way to 7k, and if not I would have been a bit dissappointed! I can shift earlier if I want to, but if no M-mode, how could I ever try 7000rpm? One complaint however is that I have experienced 3 times now that it shifted from 1st to 3rd while in S-mode due to a bit of wheelspin (also without ESS)... |
