2011 z4 Squeeky Roof?
Hi All,
Is a squeeky roof something that can be fixed? It doesn't happen often but when it does it makes me want to pull over and open/close the roof to stop it from squeeking. that doesn't always fix it htough. anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it if it's fixable? |

My roof does not squeak, and I live in a rural areas with hard winters leading to frost heaves and potholes galore.

re: Squeeky Roof
My roof doesn't squeek---it "creaks". It makes an intermittent "creaking" sound. I brought it into BH BMW and asked them to lubricate the gaskets. They claimed to have done it but no fix---this annoying sound is still there. Any ideas?
Speaking of noises, I am noticing a multi-pitch "hum" when the ignition is on. Can't tell if it's always been there or if my OCD is just worse to the point I'm noticing it but wondering if anyone else has noticed this? It's rather high in pitch, it changes pitch and sounds almost like AM radio background noise. It's there even when I turn off the radio and the AirCon. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks. |

thanks all for the responses, JDB30, that's probably the same noise. squeeky was just the word that came to me when writing the OP. I've had 3 z4s now, this being the only hard top it's hard to complain compared to the other 2 soft tops
it's a rather irritating noise coming from a rather expensive car so i thought it would have been addressed by bmw if it were widespread and it sounds like it's not that uncommon but not a big enough deal to warrant a service. i'll try to lube the rubber and see if it helps. |

I removed the plastic cover hiding one of them, then loosened screws up and lowered the rear window. Then from the inside I pushed the stops firmly against the window and tightened them. No more annoying noises, just some minor sounds from the seals. |

My roof creaks every now and then over rough railroad tracks or speed bumps but not enough to complain about until it gets worse. |

I do not have the comfort access, so from inside the car I just take my finger off the button at the point where I can access the rubber. Or, if opening from outside the car, I stop turning the key in the lock when the roof is at the point where I can access the rubber.
