Roof Mechanism Issue
Today the roof mechanism is giving trouble. Getting error like roof mechanism obstructed or some similar error, dont remember it exactly.
However cannot identify anything visually that could be obstructing the mechanism in the boot or anywhere else. Boot is clear and nothing is stopping the mechanism. The roof did open and close twice with the error popping up each time and the movement stopping momentarily during the process Anyone had similar issue before? Will have to go to the dealer tomorrow but the only concern is that none of the technicans would have dealt with roof mechanism regularly and if any parts need replament, they will take minimum 4-5 weeks to fly the parts from germany. have only heard of one roof incident where the roof stopped in mid close [rear window was on top of the roof panel] several months ago, but nothing since, had to be repaired by BMW though. There is no manual way to move the roof, but could be a simple as a bad/mis-aligned roof or trunk mounted sensor.

Had problem with early-build E93 (2nd month of production, 2007) when brand new. Trouble traced to interlock switches atop windshield, either bad batch or bad design. Replacement and tuning by BMW-trained roof guy fixed and had 30 months trouble-free in E93, 5 months with no probs in E89.
This is a dealer fix and best done by someone trained on roof repairs and adjustment. |

No clue. I tried opening and closing just once and it worked fine. Has been raining for 2 days so didnt try again. Not tried again so i am not sure if the roof still works well.
Full diagnostic by the dealer should show up the issue. S |

My Z is at the dealer for loud rattle noise from the roof assembly. It sounded like coming from a lose hinge or bolt. I think should get the car back tomorrow so will know more on what the issue was.

z4 roof
I bought my z4 sDrive 2.3i new in October 2009 It made a click noise (cracking), not very loud which I took to have investigated. After several weeks the dealership could find not reason for the click then later said it was a problem with the mechanism. I have always operated the roof correctly and have never stowed items incorrectly. Anyone else had this problem?

Probably the parts are jamming up somewhere. Ask the dealer to spray the silicon lube they use , and that should solve the issue with the warning sign that you get.
Today my car has again gone to the center for roof rattle issue. I think my car will need the dealer to fix the mechanism every 6-8 months due to bad roads in my country I am getting the rubbers seals lubricated every 2 months but that doesnt seem to be long term cure for the problem S |

Just had this issue fixed by the dealer - same error message. The roof wiring harness got pinched and had to be replaced. The good news is it was a no-cost warranty repair. The bad news is (was) it took about 10 days to order, receive and install the new wiring harness.
