I've actually gone through this whole thread. Listened to most. Not all. Some I've just skimmed through. I try not to criticize someone's choice in music. It's so subjective.

It is subjective. My humble subjective opinion is that many bands could use someone who studied & practiced voice like other band members maybe did with guitar!

(Pls note: my wife had a full voice scholarship to Music & Art HS in Manhattan, just like in "Fame").

My Granny cringed when I played Leon Russell (she hated his voice), but I humored her & her opinion.

I also sample most of the music posted here. I 'appreciate' the ones I dig.

Nobody 'likes' my bluegrass samples....

But that's what makes the world go round.

Agree that some of the singers may not be the best, but a lot of them are singer/songwriters and we gets what we gets. lol

I like Leon Russell too. Another singer/songwriter and everybody may not like his voice/singing style. I like it just fine.

Here's one from him at George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh. Loved the film and all the performers.

Don't forget Bob Dylan, which I can understand. Most of the covers of his songs are better than his own versions. He definitely has his charm, though.
