I'll be in touch guys, still haven't received my modified files since I sent my ROM off to the wrong email address. I'll provide a writeup once I've played with the tune a little. Keep in mind several other E89 N54 owners have been using the tune for months and are perfectly happy so it's not like I'm breaking new ground!
*Update: it took less than an hour to receive my modified ROMs after work hours commenced! Last edited by parnassus; 02-08-2011 at 05:51 PM.. Reason: status update |

I know... Just was hoping someone (you) will write an extensive update... I am between going with the jb3 and the ESS DF. Would love to have the Dinan for peace of mind, but I certainly don't feel comfortable expressing my ECU from Hong Kong to the US....

See my DCT + ESS directflash review on the N54 1-series and 3-series forums....
You have to give car a few laps to adapt first before you notice the true performance of this beast really. |

I'm just having a few teething problems. I suspect it's my smartTop roof module which is interfering with the CAN Bus and preventing me from flashing correctly. I've been able to restore the original ROM on each attempt. Can anybody confirm my suspicions? I won't have time to try until the weekend but Asjborn from ESS has been very prompt with his help.

Good news! It turns out the SmartTOP module was interfering with the flash process. After disabling the module, I was able to flash the car with very little effort at all. In fact to those interested, I did not use a battery charger and the writing process only took 15 minutes.
I took the car around just before and the throttle response in all modes has noticeably improved, especially in Normal mode. That annoying lag has virtually disappeared. I then put it in Sport+ with manual shifting and did a little WOT. The feel is very linear but it's very clear how much extra power there is. I'm very happy with the tune! |

Parnassus - does your Stage 1/2 ESS flash rev out to 7000-7200RPM in MANUAL mode (ie have they increased the RPM limit with the DCT which usually changes gear around 6800RPM)? Their website says they raise the rev limit to 7000RPM for Stage 1 and 7200RPM for Stage 2?

I installed the stage 2 today and running on 97 octane fuel. The performance difference vs stock is incredible . The major change is in the 80-120 time, feels like the car does that in like split seconds!
This tune has made the car like a beast . I am going to drag another same spec firends stock z4 and will try to take some videos to record the difference And also should get some dyno test done soon. To sum up , huge difference in performance vs stock , a must buy! And I am sure now all owners who have had the car for 1+ year will love this change since it's as good as getting a brand new car which is much faster than the one you are used to. S |

Over the weekend i dragged with friends SL55 AMG and on multiple attempts with / without launch control the Z4 with ESS tune smoked the AMG. I feel the 0-62 time is around 4 seconds.
The stock AMG is around 4.5-4.7 seconds so my ESS Z4 should have been around 4 something to take a lead. Also huge improvement to the 100-200 kmph timing |

shipping cost?
Hello Suvidh, sounds great.
What shipping-rate did you get? I was going to order today but the shippingcost was almost 20% of the price for the flashingtool with DHL (Had bad experience with DHL before and would like to avoid them. I could pick it up in Norway for free, but my car will not come out until end of May. (cause of snow and sand). To pay almost 100 Euro in freight seems quite hi for me. Made me back of until I can check for an option. It's only 500 Km between ESS in Norway and me i Sweden. BR Shadow4 |

Shadow, If I were you, I would wait for snow to melt, and will drive to Norway to pick up the ESS...
No need for the rush, especially if you are not going to drive it right now anyway... |

Shipping just for the tool between USA to india would have been $50~60. But keep in mind that shipping costs between USA to anywhere is always most competitive compared to rest of the world . So if you are not going to use it now , better wait to pick it up. S |
