Carved up some twisty roads in the Bay Area
TurboHank and I carved up some nice twisty backroads today from the East Bay to the South Bay. TurboHank has an awesome looking M Sport package! No traffic, it was like having our own twisty roads to play on. We pushed these fun cars pretty hard today that mine asked for a quart of oil on the dash/iDrive warning. Stopped at the service department to have them add a quart on the way back home.

It's double the fun driving with other Z4 enthusiasts! Next time we need to carve up the ocean side scenery.

This is roughly the route I took. We started from Clayton and ended up in San Jose. Route 130 was ridiculous took us up to Mt. Hamilton.

I was looking at your map and found the Calavaras Rd to the the reservoir is off of Milpitas. We should take that next time, also pretty fun Rd. Although it tends to have a few bicyclists to watch out for and the roads also become narrow shares like Morgan Territory Rd. There is also great twisty roads in the Napa Valley wine country area that I've been through going towards lake Shasta.

Those are some great shots, and the cars both looked spankin'. Seriously jealous.
I had never seen the difference between the M-Sport front and back before, or the Space Grey w/Red in outside light. You just saved me a couple of posts, thanks.

Nice playground and lovely shots. About the oil addition, did you cruise in redline a lot, would you say it is normal or does it have anything to do with your dinan remap? Do you have oil cooler? Thanks

My previous E46 M3 would ask for more oil constantly after extended periods of high revs driving all day. Both E46 M4 and E89 Z4 have 6-speed manual (not sure if that makes a difference). Don't get me wrong, even with the understeer and a bit tail happy, this car is still extremely satisfying as it is a handful to drive, IMHO.

Which part of Brentwood are you from? Southern Cal or Northern Cal?

I originally was intimidated and disappointed with the Z4 handling at the limit. Time to get used to it is all it took. To solve the understeer, just enter the corner a hair slower and get on the throttle to balance it. Even in the wet it works and I had no issues driving the car hard. OR, if you ABSOLUTELY know what you are doing, lift thottle oversteer might help. Sport mode seemed best as Sport+ allows a more unsettled feeling. At the BMW PC, they recommended Sport mode for any on road driving (mostly due to the snap oversteer possible in Sport+ or DSC off). I even used it (just Sport mode) on their autocross and felt at one with the handling without feeling like DSC was handicapping me. It rarely if ever even flashed during those autocross laps so I know I was driving the car well but still fast.

Seemed like a lot of fun. Wow, almost 5 hr drive. That space grey on red looks great. Of course, I also like the white on red.
flpnout, how come your top wasn't down in those shots? |

LOL, I couldn't stand the heat. And I wanted to check out the handling with top up. Next time it will be down, just to see if there is a significant difference in handling. Also I just love the coupe look

relax Tranquility, he's just jiving you, an island off the coast of Washington = rain, travel back to LA = smog ......if you want real sun you have to get to the other side of the Rockies....but I still don't see how you got a tan in TO ???
PS: I'll be going through the San Fran area to LA in a few weeks and might look for this road. It looks like a blast.
