35is software upgrade for 35i
From an inside source....35is software is already out to the dealers and they can upgrade any 35i with it to make it just like the 35is...that includes DCT upgrade. But there are still tweeks to be resolved so I was told to wait until they fix all the issues before doing the upgrade.

"BMW, not wanting to miss out on this trend, will be releasing an officially-warrantied upgrade. The kit is based on the upgrades given to the F01, which has a revised N54 and more power. The only information so far is that there will be software changes and cooling upgrades -whether this means a larger radiator or a larger intercooler is unknown, as it wasn’t mentioned.
This kit provides mild gains -- US-spec should expect power to jump from 300 to 321bhp, and torque to jump from 295lb-ft (400nM) to 336lb-ft (450nM.) While this is much milder than aftermarket upgrades, the benefit of having it covered by warranty and the assumption that it will be easier on the engine than other upgrades should not be overlooked. No one wants to void the warranty on their complicated $50,000 BMW, do they? BMW says it will cut 0.2s off the 0-60 sprint, so figure somewhere in the 4.5 second range. And considering this is a simple upgrade on a non-M BMW, that’s simply insane."

i just ordered my jb3 upgrade, i wonder how much this official bmw upgrade will be.
I think the aftermarked guys wont be too happy with this official bmw upgrade. Personally i wont buy the bmw upgrade because the 20hp bonus is simply not enough for me. |

why would anyone want to void their warranty for a lousy few extra horsepower. It would be one thing when the car is a few years old and you wanted to keep it when the warranty is over. But to take that risk doesnt seem worth it to me. Buy and older car and go nuts with it if you want. This car is not a horsepower champ at the best of times. But its a wonderful ride.

Back in November, when I test drove the 35i, the dealer did mention that there is a software upgrade available that would enhance performance to "near M3 levels." He did not tell me how much or any other specifics as I felt the car was pretty potent as is.
Point is, there is an upgrade available for now....will it still be there once the 35is hits the street is anybody's guess.

My service director told me that he can just update my car at no cost if it's done during a scheduled inspection. There's really no labor cost to doing it other than having to plug it to a machine and wait. People who still haven't taken delivery yet should ask if you can have the upgraded software installed before taking delivery.

Food for thought – a warranted power upgrade by BMW nice boost to power, tell insurer – if you have an accident all ok.
Or much more significant upgrade, BMW can’t see it, you don’t declare to your insurer, you have an accident – they will find it and your not insured – tell your insurer BMW won’t give you a warrantee, I can not see how this is worth it. I will definitely get the upgrade when it shows up, I am going to keep the car long term as my fun car. I don’t want some over boosted engine killer – and in truth 4.7s is quick enough in the real world driving everybody does. If you really want the rocket get the GTR and see if you can keep your license for 3 monthes! |

The BMW Performance Power Kit for the BMW 135i and BMW 335i redefines engine performance. The effects of the modifications to the engine tuning parameters include: Increased torque of 317 ft-lbs (manual transmission) or 332 ft-lbs (automatic transmission), available from just 1,500 rpm Increased maximum output* of 320 horsepower *For detailed performance figures, see graph below. Faster acceleration from 0 to 75 mph Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, remain the same as the standard model. The warranty validity and vehicle quality are not compromised in any way. To deal with the extra heat generated as a result of the engine modifications, an additional radiator, air intakes, and a more powerful fan for the main radiator are incorporated (fig.1). I wonder if those other mods are needed. It could be worth the $2k if so.
