I'm just going to disagree with the video. Not in his explanation in how a rollout works, or that some large reviewers like Motortrend or Car and Driver use them. But in his claim that manufacturers are trying to achieve the best 0-60 times possible and that all reviews use rollouts.

Nearly any high performance car I look at has realistic 0-60 times posted that don't include the use of a rollout. That's why reviewers that do use rollouts and drive on prepped surfaces are posting better numbers. Half of the vehicles I looked actually had conservative 0-60 times where just a half assed launch control use on a regular road would post better numbers.

The reality is that you do not know where the 0-60 number came from! When BMW posts it or C&D does, they never state if it was GPS based or 1 foot role based system.

BMW says my F82 ZCP DTC will do 0-60 in 3.9 Seconds....but under what conditions and system?

I have a Dragy and it gives you both 0-60 and 1 foot roll. The best I could get out of my car was 4.1 0-60 and 3.85 1 foot roll.

So...is my car with 2000 miles on (brand new with new tires) under par? Do I need to go to a prepped track? Is BMW using 1 foot roll? Who knows?!!!??!?!

C&D uses a 1 foot roll and they often use a prepped surface. To add another variable outside of the one already present in RWD or manuals it's that some manufacturers just claim something that's close enough. It's no different than HP/TQ ratings from BMW who do everything from crank to wheel depending on the model.

Subaru was notorious (maybe still is?) for trying to fool people. Their cars were significantly down on the wheel HP compared to other rivals, but they would put in their literature (as in, I actually read this): "Don't compare HP numbers, compare the 0-60 times, because that will tell you how fast these cars actually are". What they were doing was revving the engine way up and doing a 5K AWD clutch drop, basically using the engine as a flywheel and yeah, you could get some decent 0-60 times when down on the HP...for a while, until something breaks, because the car isn't going to handle that long. It was completely deceitful. The rolling acceleration times told the real story.

just depends what you're after. but yeah test is skewed by so many things like tire selection, gearing, launch control, rollout etc. a gtr can get you a good 0-60... but a 5-60 would be alot different as its out of its powerband. a hellcat can hit mid-3s 0-60... but thats after you get some heat into the tires and hoping you have a good surface.

thats why in the real world with legal speed limits the model 3 and y performance shine. power and grip always on tap.

of course many of us don't obey those limits. so for me trap speed is a more telling number of a cars performance. stage 1 f80 traps like 10mph more than a model 3 performance.

theres a reason why no one who is actually in to cars mentions 0-60 or stated hp or any of the other marketing stuff.

The test is flawed because Tesla ruined it for everyone. It doesn't really matter anymore, want a fast stoplight racer...the answer is Tesla. Think your 911 Turbo is quick, well guess what the Model S Plaid sh*ts on it.

This is true.....but if you can get a head start and have a loud car....you will likely scare the Tesla driver. They are not use to noise and can easily be thrown off if you got a loud car. Word is, sometimes they get so scared that their man buns unwind and block their view!

I roll my eyes when people talk about 0-60 times. Its such a skewed stat.

Quarter mile times and trap speeds are more useful. If I'm really interested in a car's power rolling races are helpful as well.

I've never given 2 shits about standing stats at all, cannot fathom what the obsession is. How it pulls from say 40kmh to 130 is what i feel on the road.

Tbh nowadays I don't think 0-60mph or 0-100kph are interesting at all anymore.

First of all any 4wd car will probably smoke any 2wd car.
Any electric car....you know...

I think 100-200kph will give a much better idea how fast a car really feels and is.
And a lot of reviewers/yt channels are starting to record these times.

Also with 0-60mph/0-100kph, the use of launch control, and how good it is will greatly affect the time, but it's not something that is used on a spirited drive.
