Anyone have any idea why........?
My wife has been complaining that the lane change function (3 flashes) on the turn signal does not work for her. Yet when I drive it, it works fine. The only difference is she's using the #1 keyless fob and I'm using the #2 fob. Is there any kind of internal programming in these fobs that would effect something like turn signal functionality? Sounds crazy, but there's still a lot I don't know about the electronics of this car!

I have a 2009 and it works as described. I also have Idrive. There is a setting which you can turn this function on and off. Do you have the manual? It should give you directions.

This is a 2013 w/o iDrive. I haven't really gotten into it yet and my wife has the manual with her in the car, so I just thought someone here might have a quick answer.

each key has its own profile. 3x turn signal is one of the settings that makes up the profile. Your key is set to 3x and hers is 1x currently
Go into the settings (thumb switch on the left stalk to scroll up or down, button at the end of the stalk to select) and choose the turn signals (it should be close to the bottom of the list) and then choose 3x instead of 1x It feels archaic to do without the idrive but the things that are adjustable are the same between idrive and non idrive cars Another example of profile info stored with fob is seat memory (i.e. I am pretty sure each fob has memory 1 and memory 2 associated with the fob). While you are in the settings, choose the setting so that the seat position is moved automatically when the car is unlocked. Makes switching drivers a breeze. Good luck and... RTFM |

Thanks Nick; that gets me pointed in the right direction. And as for RTFM, I'm usually religious about that, but I have found BMW's idea of an Owner's Manual the next best thing to useless with incredibly shallow descriptions and generalizations about equipment. Better than nothing, but not much!

I'm kidding around.
I first read the manual in 2008 when I first got an E90 (non idrive 2012 Z4 in cabin tech same as 2008 base 328....) so I've had a while to muddle through the settings |

I don't have very many settings with the stalk, definitely no signal options.
Status(?) Check, Dash Lighting level, Oil check, Date & Time, Tire Reset....and maybe that's it. |

Within settings is where the turn signal, flash/sound on lock/unlock, auto move of seats, DRL, etc changes can be made. |

Bingo. My other cars bring stuff up on the move in the menus but indicate they can't be changed unless vehicle is stopped. But wow, nice stuff can be had if you start her up and not drive off in 1.2 seconds...as usual. Who wouldn't want the auto 3-blinks? I love it.
Thanks Nick...Always helpful. |

folks i see this a lot. everyone needs to remember that each key is programmed for each person. jsut becasue you program one key for you doesnt mean the other person gets the same programming. Some things (but not all) are:
mirror locations seat locations radio memory buttons vehicle functions such as triple turn signal function, lock/unlock, delayed entry exit. trip computer settings etc. After any kind of power loss or ECU upgrade i have spent a half hour reprogramming each remote to the previous settings. why BMW doesnt back these values up before doing the upgrade is beyond me but neverthelesss i just do it over. One key then the next. the most annoying thing for me is sometimes when my wife drives the vehicle i goto change the radio channel to something i like and when i press the button my station is not there. that is because her programming is seperate from mine. kind of convenient i guess but takes some getting used to (if i remember)
