You know you drive a Z4...
* when suddenly all of your new "friends" turn out to be the wrong ones
* when you don't need any service for the A/C air filter... * when you just can't remember the last time you slept alone * when you just can't remember the last time you slept at home * when you check the temperature of the tires by simply opening the door and reaching behind * when thoughts of feeling useless and miserable totally stopped sticking to you * when to avoid requests for closing the roof, you tell each new passenger that it's actually a car with no roof at all * when you finally realize how much you actually hate RFTs |

*when hot chicks give you smiles
*when local boys ask themselves "WTF was this car" when flying by *when you drive fast in the turn and feels like you are on the train *when tehnician on yearly tehnical inspection before registration asks you: "is it difficult to drive slow with that car?" All based on todays experiences....if I would go further back in time, this forum would run out of pages |

- When drivers coming from the opposite way are all looking at your car and who is driving it
- When you open the roof with the remote from far away on a parking lot and people are looking at the it opening itself and wondering what is this f**king awesome car that can transform into a convertible alone - When you don't feel safe for your car when another one is parking close next to you - When you spend time on this forum wondering how you can take a better care of your car and share that awesome feeling to own it |

Yes, but most Z4's on the road today, built between 2003-2007, E85, were built in So. Carolina. If you take a look at sales figures, the greatest number of Z4's were sold between 2003-2007. Since then Z4 sales have taken a substantial plunge.
What is amazing to me is that the E89 is such a better driving car. I have had both a 2003 and a 2009, similarly equipped, 3.0i and 6m/t. I also think the E89 is a better looking car, but sales are still way down. Tough to figure out. |

z4 35iS - 65k SLK55AMG -67.5 TTRS - 58k Its very hard to justify the price compared to the competition that are playing on the next level up and are either near your price point or far below. IF they did make a z4m it would be a v8 costing what 80K? 80k is 6series money. Last edited by VailM3; 04-19-2013 at 06:56 AM.. |

Sales are down because the Z has been going up market in price... Yet, the "chick car" status has stuck. Not to mention, it's really hard to justify a Z4 when it can easily reach the price of a 6, which is significantly more family oriented. And I would imagine people who can afford such a vehicle is more likely to be family oriented than not. Not to mention... while I love my Z and I think it definitely is more eye-catching than any Porsche can be (maybe not the GT3 or the Turbo S in orange or Speed Yellow...) but with a sticker of 70k (not even for the iS) you can easily jump into a Cayman or Boxster S which is a lot more car for the price than the Z. Or, if you are into more luxury cruising, almost a base 911. We all made our choices (including myself) to get the Z, and I am glad it's so exclusive. However, on a marketing/business standpoint, just cause it has 1/2 the looks of an exotic supercar doesn't mean it should have 1/2 the price of one, especially since the performance doesn't back it up. Don't get me wrong, the car is fast and handles pretty well for a hardtop convertible, but for the price point...

In China a 35i is around 850.000rmb including taxes. A boxter S is 1,100,000 and a 911 base model is 1,600,000rmb. That is in part because most imported cars in China come with a load of options preselected. (Btw The conversion rate is 1000 rmb = 161 usd) Anyway, even if the price was actually the same, then try and put a tune and some PSS tires on the Z4 and look at it as a total package. I would say the Z4 has very little to be ashamed of next to any of those P cars. It might still be over-priced compared to something like a 1M, but then that isn't a roadster. I don't think the Boxter is either, because it is center-engined (and butt-heavy). It's certainly never a coupe. What it is, is a car from what used to be the most profitable car company in the world... just saying... |

Miata sales figures are way down as well, and it is the best selling 2 seat roadster of all time. I buy most of my fun cars used. My 2009 Z4 3.0i 6m/t was the same price as a tricked out new Miata. My Z4 had 9k miles on it when I bought it and since it was a stick, it was a tough sale down here in Florida. The dealer was happy to take my 2006 C6 Corvette convertible 6 a/t in trade. |

I don't know why ppl keep saying that the Cayman S is similarly priced to the Z4? It is at least $20K more w/ similar specs. Also, don't think that going for a Boxster/S(soft-top) or a regular Cayman(low hp) is a better choice. TTS is even more ridiculous, paying that much for a 4-banger? No thx. The new SLK is different and alright if you want something else but it's less sporty than the BMW and does it even have a dual-clutch tranny?
