41 for me... 2011 35i was first, and just picked up a new 35is in Munich this past October.
This was right before finishing my 20 years in law enforcement and "retiring" to do private sector work |

Bought my first E85 when I was 23. Then bought my E89 35i when I was 28. The price of a 35i compared with a 20i is really big here in Norway. The bigger engine, the higher taxes. So a 35i is $180000 and the 20i is $90000 with some equipment!!!!!

Had roadsters my whole life. Bought my first, MG Midget when I was 21, had a Triumph TR3A for years, 3 Miatas , 1996 Z3, 1999 Z3 2.8, 2001 Z3 3.0. Never warmed up to the original Z4s but I think the E89 is one of the best looking cars ever made. I've yet to park somewhere and not turn around to admire it.

Turns out that it is indeed very balanced, which IMO makes it an even greater car, since "the young and old" usually never agree (youth of today etc...)
But the world finally found something everyone agrees: The Z is a great car! |

I kind of doubt it would be a young crowed here in Hong Kong. Unless a 26 years old can afford paying for a Z like mine at USD 120,000, not to mention the gas @ USD 2.5 / L

USA is the only place to be if you like fast cars. I think I have seen two 30i and around ten 23i here in China. And that is it. People who can afford a 35i/35is will probably buy an M3 or at least a 7-series instead. 99% of the people here with money to spend on BMWs will put them in whatever gives the most prestige. Not what gives the most fun in daily driving. |

Of course not, and also I am way out-numbered by M3 enthusiasts! ;-)
My main point is that most people here, if they can afford a base 5-series they prefer that over a fun M135 which costs about the same. You hardly see any 135, 335 or Z4 35 cars here because for the same money you can get something from a higher series and that gives you more prestige. I dont know if it is the same in HK. I can understand people in Europe stepping up to smaller engines like this, because they have to pay much more for fuel, tax and insurance but not so here in mainland China. A second point could be that there are very few tracks in China. Instead there are lots of bad roads and traffic jams. And when you know the dark side of China just a little, and see all these M3s driven by young beautiful girls you know they were not bought for what they were originally intended....... Anyway, I am happy that so many people buy BMW, even if it is just for the brand. It helps drive investments in future technologies. |

Oh well, since the guy bumped this thread.
That's true for me, although I'm not a younger guy (30s when I got the Z4). With rugrats running around, I'd probably be stuck w/ a Yugo lol. |

I consider 30s to be in the "younger guys" crowd Are you saying it is your sole vehicle because you have no kids?

Indirectly, I guess. It's only my wife and I so only need 1 vehicle, not to mention that we live in an apt w/ only 1 carspot. I prefer sporty cars and I think that the rear seats in 2+2s are useless and a waste of space. I like my cars as small as possible. The Z4 happens to fit most of my criteria. |
