BMW please bring on the Z4M! BMW have argued that they could not build the business case for the Z4M. That leaves me thinking how did they come up with a business case for the X5M and X6M??
It is deplorable that a carmaker that prides itself on making sporty cars does not have a halo car like the Audi R8 or Mercedes SLS.... Of all carmakers BMW could afford to build the M1 super car.... BMW is in danger of diluting the M brand. It makes M cars out of bloated heavy SUVs but shies away from building M version of the Z4. BMW M divion should go back to its roots and build some landmark sport cars not just spiced up sedans/coupes and SUVs. Not to mention the latest absurdity of a diesel engined X5 M!! Make no mistake, the 1M, the M3 and the M5 are all class leaders in their category, but there should be lighter 2 seater M offerings as well to enthusiast drivers The Z4M and even the M1 have their place, with the right engine (400bhp+) it could pose a challenge to Porsche 911 and the like... BMW please revisit that business case and make true sports cars for the enthusiast drivers as well, cars that are deservedly wear the M badge and the Ultimate Driving Machine moniker!! |

Agreed but BMW USA now shys away from models with low sales potential. Just like the lack of a 5er wagon in the US.They also have reduced ///M developement costs by more parts bin sharing of engines and trim pieces. The M Coupe and M roadster, even though great enthusiast cars just didn't sell, especially their later years. The X5M and X6M are selling like hot cakes and make BMW USA a ton of money.
Just be glad we got the 1M. Even though it uses the 35is motor, its a more pure enthusiast M model. They probably could have doubled its production and sold every one.

This is the first automatic I have owned besides a POS I had in Japan and the DTC is the closest thing to driving heaven a person can get. No heal-toe in the curve missing the pedal and spinning out and if you are just driving in town you can still have a few seconds of fun. And when it comes to bumper to bumper, just throw it in full manual and relax. I have to admit I liked the M3 DTC a bit better because it was a pull-pull (right up, left down) verses the push-pull, but I just wanted a roadster and this things answers the call!

Characters like the so-called "reviewer", above, are one of the reason the internet has become such a foul place to visit. At least he showed his face while he demonstrated his arrogance, unlike most cowards who force us to listen to the rantings and profanity at every turn.
1. Purchase of a durable good, such as a BMW, does not imply ownership of the company itself. BMW, like any other capitalist driven enterprise is free to use their brand, logos, etc. however they wish to make a profit. Apparently, BMW is rather profitable even during tough economic times. 2. Even though he bought into a concept (i.e., MT only in an ///M) that BMW promoted many years ago, it was not a limiting contract. BMW did not say "If you buy an ///M today, we promise to always make them this way." 3. Nor does his fanaticism for BMW's former products prohibit the company from re-defining the ///M concept. The ///M concept is a marketing tool to attract potential buyers. It was their concept back in the day - they will choose to use it however they wish today for their own marketing purposes. 4. As always, time and technologies go on. Fortunately, the people are all likely dead and gone who insisted "the only way to make a wheel" is with stone.

As much as I'd like to see a new Z4M, chances are if it were to happen it would be little more than a warmed over Z4 35is luxobarge or whatever they are calling the top Z4 these days.
Would I love to see a carbon-fiber laden hardtop Z4 with the S65 or S85? Oh course! I'd probably be the first to sign up for European Delivery. But the chances of that are slim to none. Thus I would rather have no new Z4M, than the trash we would probably get were it to happen. Our best hope is for a future Z2M or similar to bring back the essence of what the Z3M and Z4M once were. |

I think we got the 1-series M instead of a E89 Z4M, and there won't be one forthcoming. There would be rumors, spy shots...something, by now.

Go back to your own forum and while you are at it take your "luxobarge" comment back with you.
The Z3 looks like an overgrown cocka roach and the old Z4 is the ultimate banglemobile, but I'm not ignorant enough to use terms like that over on the Z3 and old Z4 forum where there are hundreds of Z3 and old Z4 owners. |

Z4 M
I agree, a M version of the current Z4 would likely cost over $80,000 and the volume would not make sense. But wow.....it would be world class!
