New to me 2009 Z4 3.0i manual 6sp Yellow "Park" light.
Took delivery today of a 2009 3.0i 6sp., Sapphire Black/Red interior. My second Z4.
When I release the parking brake, the light in the instrument cluster goes from Red to Yellow and remains on. Is this normal? From what I read in the Manual it should go out. I do have a "check" message relating to over due service. Any info is greatly appreciated. |

Not normal. My cars do not do that. When you release the brake, the cluster light should turn off. Have you tried putting the parking brakes back on? You might have a low battery.

That would suggest a fault. I can't believe you've been given a car that's overdue it's service. Surely the dealer should have serviced the car before delivery? Take it back.

Did not come from a BMW dealer. I traded in my 06 Corvette on it because of very low milage on the Z4 and remaining factory warranty. My second Z and I am glad to be back.
Service appt. set for tomorrow at the BMW dealer. |

It's probably a faulty brake pad wear sensor, most usually caused by a deep bump on the road.

Thanks again. UPDATE: The dealer advised that they had to install updated software for the vehicle and that has removed the fault. They further advised that after a road test the light is now off.
They are also completing two recalls that had never been done. I should get the Z back today. New 328i loaner, is a nice car. The engine deactivation takes a little getting use to at stops. |

Final Report: Got my "new" car back from the dealer today. Quote from Tech: Performed vehicle test found fault code 6017 for wheel speed sensor DFA_EMF in the parking brake module. Performed test plan for fault, told to update software in vehicle for error. Reprogrammed complete vehicle including CAS per diag code D3440_EMF0000T_90_200. After programing, cleared fault codes, road tested. Light did not come back on.
They also did the two recall items and gave me a comp wash. To be detailed tomorrow. |

Le sigh. Similar thing just happened to me this morning. Except the e-brake will not re-engage again. I pull up on it, and the BRAKE light does not turn red. This is the CHECK CONTROL screen. Did yours look like this?

I had this. This is due to a low battery fault. It needs to be reset by the dealer.

Were you not able to re-engage your parking brake as well?

Correct. I would get a message saying the parking brakes fail. I've had it happen twice and ended forcing the dealer to
1) update software to prevent the low battery voltage to cause this 2) change the battery which was causing all kinds of other gizmos in the car. Now all has been well for the past 3 months.

Took my car into the dealership today. They said it's a software fault in the EMF module (I think), which controls the e-parking brake. They are going to update the software on it. They are also going to do the battery terminal recall while they are at it.
