The Z4 Tames the Dragon Again
My friends and I made our spring trip to the Tail of the Dragon and the Southeast Sharkfest this past week. We stayed at the Snowbird Lodge near Robbinsville, NC and got 4 nice runs in. It was heavily patrolled this time but I avoided any tickets. We then headed to Greenville, SC for SESF at the BMW Zentrum museum. On Friday we had the opportunity to thrash some BMWs around the BMW Performance Center. On Saturday, I spotted the new F10 5 Series. Its still a month away from the full release.
Total stats: 920 miles, 25.2 mpg. 1272 curves, 0 tickets, and countless smiles. Here are my pics from the trip: http://sirsnapsalot.smugmug.com/Cars...6_sQR5v#P-1-20 The Z4 actually made the highlight page of a TOD photo site! Here are all the thumbs of the Z4 and my friends 645ci. http://www.photoreflect.com/pr3/Thum...7&g=0QAK00O400

Nice Shots!! That must be CobraDav in the 6 series. I miss my 6 series at times. I had the coupe then cabrio. How did you like your 6 series in comparison to the new Z4. I think they are both great cars. Although when I hit a pot hole in Z4 I really felt and heard the loud whack in the cabin letting you know it's upset. The 6 to me was the smoothest BMW I have driven/owned.
Nice to see the Z4 and 6 in the same photo. These are my two favorite Bavarias so far. I hope the forthcoming 6 will be just as good or even better. In this picture it looks like the Z4 has bigger rims/wheels than the 645:

Correct, that is CobraDav. His 645Ci just turned 100,000 miles!
In my opinion, the Z4 rides better than the 650i did overall. My 6 seemed rather harsh. When driving on the typical concrete interstate, you could see the passenger headrest shake. A long trip would wear me out. Not so in the Z4. I've done 8 hour trips with ease in it. On large bumps, the Z4 suspension does crash where I don't recall the 650i doing that. Overall, I prefer the Z4. It has a far nicer interior (with the Ivory Nappa), more features (eg., additional seat adjustments), updated iDrive, etc. The one 650i feature I miss in the Z4 is the heads up display.
