Diff whine?
e89 2009 35i whine is most noticeable when coasting down from about 60mph. It is a fairly low volume only noticeable when the pavement is smooth with low tire noise. I wish I could try another car because it could even be a normal diff gear whine.
Any thoughts? Thanx |

If it is diff whine, and it is the loudest at 60mph when on throttle, then it should occur again at 110-130mph - even louder. Try and test that.
Also diff whine is typically more audible off throttle during engine braking, especially from high speed. It then quiets down when you get back on the throttle. Normally you cant hear a healthy diff on a stock Z4. You need stiffer bushings and subframe mounts to be able to hear it. If it is indeed falling apart, then don't worry, it will happen gradually and the sound will just get louder and louder over time. |
