Z4 Makes a Nice Touring Car
My better half and I just returned from a week long road trip. The trunk accommodated a large suitcase as well as several small bags with no problem and still allowed us to put the top down. We drove about 1000 miles and averaged for the entire trip while on the highway, 68.2 mph and 32.6 mpg. Most of the highway was interstate with the cruise control set to 73 mph. Very pleased with this car as a touring vehicle.

My better half and I are embarking on a long trip the week after next. We're going from Portland Oregon south to LA, then east via Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, to Cincinnati Ohio from where I'll be flying back home. She is driving back to Portland on her own at leisurely pace. Total the trip will be around 6,000 miles. Took me almost a year to rack up the first 6k. Not going to get a low mileage oil service in year two I'm running on standard tires now, had the HPFP fix, and an oil change done. I'm hoping for a nice relaxed drive without stops at various BMW dealerships.

That's just about the time I'm flying to Portland for a week. It's for a photography trip with a group to photograph the coast, the Columbia River Gorge, and the nearby mountains. We are staying at the Heathman Lodge and other places along the coast.

A few months after I bought my Z4, I did 1600 miles in a week in the NC, VA, & WV mountains. The weather sucked (October cold rain and snow!) but I still enjoyed the week with the car.

I've been driving a few different BMs lately for overnight test drives and while mine gets some (more) work done on it...
135i convertible 535i X1 20d 135i coupe 320d sedan Nothing has come close to as being fun to drive (and giving a great acceleration / handling mix), with the possible exception of a X3 30D M SPort I took out last week - which (for a 4WD) was an amazing drive. LEts call it a close second. (Needless to say the works are in motion to add one to the garage - Black or DSB, 19" wheels and as many luxury options as my better half wants, which if history teaches me anything, will be all of them)

We had 2 weeks of top down weather touring Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria in our Z. A mixture of winding roads through sleepy villages, spaghetti draped asphalt across multiple mountain passes, high speed autobahn/autostrada and cruising along the Med down the Amalfi coast. I'm here to tell you folks..., it doesn't get any better than that. I cannot wait for our next ED.
