Missing hood emblem
Dunno if it just fell off or a vandal got it, but which one should I get and I just need to remove the existing residue and apply some superglue? Thanks for your help.

^AI is getting worse and worse, I'm not clicking that sketchy link.
Anyway, this was a pretty bad design as apparently the top part is just held by that 'glue' so over time it will just fall off. They should've made it have a latch or something physical to affix it.

82mm is far too big, so both of those links are no good.
The correct size is 70mm for the hood and sides, good luck finding a copy badge that fits properly. The closest is 74mm, but the lugs are thinner than the OE ones so the nuts don't fit, and the little plugs that some sell don't work either, so it's OEM only. Part number is 5114 7044207

Please take note. This emblem is attached via 2 stamped metal nuts. If you pop out the front grill, you can get wrench up there to remove the nuts.

Tx, I'll have to see once I pick up my ordered part. It may not even come w the bottom part w the pegs, so I'm thinking of getting some intensive tape. We'll see.

I replaced the front and side emblems a few months back. The front one can be accessed by opening the hood and removing the air intake piping that goes to the air filter, four 10 mm bolts holding this on. My E89 is a six cylinder model for reference. after removing this you can easily reach under the front and remove a nut holding the emblem (mine had a nut holding the emblem on) and change out the emblem. The side emblems are a bit tougher, held on by two prongs pushed into hard rubber bushings and one locating pin in the 12:00 position. I used an old credit care to gently pry into one side of the emblem forcing a gap, then do the other side. Do this several times until you have a gap to use your fingers to pull it loose. It took me 45 minutes to do this. I hope this helps

Like someone else said, maybe I got too large a size. Apparently, 82mm fits most Bimmers except for the Z4 haha. We'll see if I wasted $16 for a paper weight lol.

Thanks for the above removal suggestion. I didn't feel comfy removing engine parts and just pried the thing off and it was crazy tough. As you can see, one peg broke off and the other was somehow still intact. I actually dunno if a nut or any rubber sleeves were holding it in place but obviously it was very secure.
Anyway, I got lucky because I mistakenly ordered the wrong, larger 82mm but they for whatever reason included a 70mm for free w/o me doing anything. It's good quality but it has raised edges so not like OEM where I think there's a coating? We'll see how it holds up but I used industrial-strength velcro to hold it in place. I'm happy for CAD16 and some crazy elbow grease. |
