Im seriously considering option 2. I know it seems risky but it seems to be the only integrated option which will work with my idrive. Option 1 does not offer "Carplay" but only mirroring. Additionally, you can purchase on Amazon and the manufactures says there that they will provide USB updates to keep up with IOS updates.
I may end up being the guinea pig on this, will keep you all posted how it goes.
